I think #1 is a lil under. #2 the flash is too harsh. #3 compo too central :).

orionmystery, would it help #3 if the crop was tight?

The rest are friends, and friend's friend. To sum up, we are all new including our model which is her virgin shoot out. Except for the 1 in cap. He was our 'lead'. Don't think any of them are registered in here.

You can try cropping away the left part :). While you're at do, also try to boost the contrast a little!

hope u dun mind some constructive comments.

photo 1 : a bit tad underexposed. next time if u are uncertain of exposure - shoot in RAW.

photo 2 : flashgun produces harsh shadows and extreme highlights.
solution - bring a long a reflector and use it as a bouncer for flash light in open space (such as bkt jalil)

photo 3 : like wut they say - its too centered.

overall u need to look into improvement of compositions, and also take note on consistency of output.

hope this helps.

Jayhan,

FYI it was in RAW. I change the WB to FLASH in LightRoom as what my fellow Oly user adviced me to. For the other setting I hit auto. Cropped and exported to jpg. Minimal PP done as I'm still new. Played with the preset LR modes to acheived the mood of the 3rd photo. :run_away:

SO for portraits, its not a must to get sharp strong photos but some subtle softness are at times good. Tight crop, and RAW. Anything else that I've missed out or misinterprete?

Getting sharpness and correct exposure is crucial, you can worry about the other elements after that.

If you shoot RAW white balance is not too much of a concern.

Sharpness is most important, try and stop down your lens a little, at least 1-2 stops from wide open, make sure shutter speed is fast enough to avoid hand shake and make sure your focus is correct on the eyes.

Softness can be added in PP - sharpness cannot.
