I like the concept, esp the rays shining in on the lady. However I feel that the lady should be the one in focus. Just my 2 yens :)

totally agree. :)
if u see closely, the stone on the left was in in-focus. this is because i set the focus at the stone first. when the subject came into the frame, i just simply forgot to re-focus it. i guess i'm old already....
initially, the idea was trying to capture old folks instead of that lady. but i was waiting there waiting for the right subject to come but no luck for me that day.
thanks for pointing that out, joyce. will try to do better next time. :)

Hahaha...wah..if you are tua then I must be ancient! Nvm lor...u still can try out with your new lens ma :gatal: Haha! So pray that you're in luck the next time! Else you'll just have to keep trying :)
I think the 50mm has just the right perspective. The 28mm would require you to move much closer, giving a different view. In addition, the lady would be conscious of your presence and you will lose the candid moment.

i wanted to include some interesting parts of the ceiling to add more characters to the shot. but like u've said, it will give a totally different view and the main focus will become loose.

You've improved a lot shooting on film! :D
Its really nice, except for the already-mentioned OOF lady. But exposure control is good here.

I love the shot as is. The wider angle might have given a different dimension to the shot.. and probably told a different story. Maybe a story about the place rather than about the lady.
Never the less, shots like this makes us appreciate those folks who got excellent shots in the film days.

Very nice. Boost the contrast a bit and it'll be great!

on weather to go wider or not, i think this shot can be a bit wider. the reason being is simple. when you look at the theme of the shot it si about a person praying. meaning that there is the human and the 'higher' being element.
as such a wider angle would have worked better to make the human smaller in porportion to the overall surrounding thus giving the impression of the smallness of human in compariosn to the 'higher' being.
but then it's always up to intepretation. a 50mm can work too because it captures the expression of the person in better detail. If you had fot it in focus la (sorry had to put that one in to poke you)

i wonder if i include the "tanglong" up on the ceiling, would the photo would be loose in delivering the whole message like u've mention above?

another shot... same 1/3eV overexposed, no adjustments were made.
