the 50mm 1.8f is VFM, but cars in malaysia, especially foreign manufacturers, forever epensive as we all have to pay the stupid tax thingy. :redface:

Toyota cars all look alike, the colors, finishing...from Avanza to the Fortuner

But Camry doesn't have any "mistake" model so far, nice car :cool:

I got the version before the current. Have problem with the mirror 1st year, stuck (same like proton) and wind sound after above 80km from rear seat..I believe buying car also depends on luck...

Very true... my friend bought new BMW and had wind problem. Had to send in to fix... He also had an electrical problem, which they tried t blame on him and his 3rd party alarm...

Recently my friend bought a camry version 2.0G . I tried and wow, the car is so quiet and the engine change is also very smooth. The looks is also ada umpph!!

I used to own a camry 2.2 GX and despite its uncle look but the car was a a gem and maintenance costs is low.

Now driving a Hyundai 4WD Santa Fe. Great SUV except for its petrol comsumption which was a little high. Anyway, most fuel consumption for 4WD is high.

hmm...i'm curious what is the wind sound like? is this problem fix-able?

I've got the 2005, 2.4L version. If you want power, go for 2.4L version. The safety features are superb, traction control, ABS, vehicle stability control. I spun the car at one of the hairpin turns going up Genting in the rain, the VSC took over the steering, and controlled the turn, until the skid stopped. It's a great car if the driver is unable to control skids and drift.

Old uncle-look car outside, but interior and performance just fantastic.
Maybe it's a little too big, parking in smaller bays, kena scratches and knocks.

The latest version is gorgeous interior and exterior. But also a target for car thieves and car-jacking.

I feel the Camry 2.0 carries too small an engine. For the size of the car, it should be at least a 2.4 engine.

Wind problems can be fixed with changing the rubber packing of the door and window seals as well. But you've gotta troubleshoot before changing otherwise waste of money.

Never drove one before so I can't comment on the drivability but VSC seems to work well..as per the advertisement and testimony from Dr.

I don't think intentionally....

Remember in the Toyota ad few years back...the director ask the stuntman to do everything with the car, no problem...then finally ask him to skid the car and lose control, he waved his hand hastily, saving...cannot! CANNOT!

That was one good ad!

Erm..intentionally? :run_away::run_away::run_away:

Intentionally only in a car-park. But no, no, not at a hairpin at Genting Highlands in the rain. I was driving alone and the car had great traction with brand new Michelin tyres, I just took it a bit too far. At a hard turn, the back tyres skidded out, so naturally I tried correcting by steering the front to drift. But the steering locked up, the beep-beep alarm went off, and the pedal and brakes do not seem to work, the car took over the controls; just for a second but seemed like a long time. When the traction came back, the control came back. Amazing because the car who have otherwise spun some more under normal circumstances if the driver gave up the control.

I find the car taking over full control quite a scary thought. I drive a fully manual car which has no vsc, abs or tc to do these sort of stuff. And with such a skid, or anything, countersteering would probably been my first reaction, or an instinct perhaps.

I can't imagine how it felt to have everything locked up. SCARY! but not everybody knows how to countersteer, more people step on the brake first!

The new Altis 1.8 full-specs has the same safety features. I thought it's really worth it. After sitting in one, you can push your Waja, or even Perdana if you owned one, into Gombak river. Very good car too. I wish Malaysia could import the 3.0 v6 Camry, now that's a baby Lexus!!

Just to add a bit more about Toyota's VSC and ABS. If you owned a Toyota car with these features, please have them calibrated once in a while to make sure the features kick in when they are needed and work as they are supposed to. It's done by computer, but I think they have to take out the tires to calibrate and service. It's free as part of your car's regular service at UMW. I got mine calibrated at the 40,000 km service. Just tell them you want to them to check the VSC and ABS systems. :)

yes, karheng, Toyota is already selling the 2009 version in US just as the 2008 model hit our shores. Proton on the other hand, just phased out their 1985 model in 2008. The 2009 Saga will come out when your children graduates. You can book now as their graduation present. :D

Is it possible that we buy the standard spec model and install the VSC later? Is this like a photoshop plug-in? :P

No idea. But it's not just software, the sensors and activators are hardwares; that may be expensive to install post-assembly.

Now, I would really like a Ferrari plug-in, not just VSC! Just install drivers*, restart the car, and it performs like a Ferrari. :D

* m.schumacher v2.0 (premium)
* f.massa v1.1 (cheaper; no TC)

karheng,
Be thankful that you now drive a manual car. It's a blessing in disguise actually. By driving a manual car, you know more about the weaknesses of a car, for example the aquaplaning limit of the tyres, the cornering limit both in dry and wet conditions, and how to induce artificial ABS and how utilize the braking power of the engine to bring you to a stop. When you have the chance, go to an empty space, and spin your car around. Play with the clutches and hand brakes, try hard cornering and try emergency braking. If possible, try in wet conditions too. I have tried that in my old Iswara, and believe me, that experience saved me in a lot of situations.

Even now after I have switched to an Altis (http://www.jackyyong.com/wp/yes-its-true-i-have-sold-off-my-iswara) with full VSC, TC and ABS, it still helps to know how to handle your car properly in the first place without having to resort to those features, in case I get too comfortable with the features turned on. As Doc has put it, these features might not work over time, so you still need to be careful while driving at all times.

Of course....

If you have to know, I used to have to change my car's arm and bushes quite often cos u know la..angkat corner. =)

Manual is fun. With proper pedal controls, I have learnt manual ABS. =)

I won't do that donut thingy anymore. Burn tyres, burn arms, burn suspension and burn money.

I'd rather spend for camera, won't go to waste. Car too much wear and tear la....expensive. sometimes u change one thing, then u end up changing a few more parts.

Best ever feeling is drifting. There's no better adrenaline rush and joy after completing a perfect drift...which of course...u have to tune your car to drift mode la.....

Wah Jacky NICE new car...=P~~~~~~ COngrats!
