I have several PS action files (.atn) that originally works on PS CS2. However I copied them to an external drive as I need to reformat my pc. I then placed them back to the pc and run them using another copy of PS CS2 from a different cd as the previous cd is spoilt. However, I received an error messages while trying to load any of them, "Could not load actions because the file is not compatible with this version of Photoshop." Tried to load them on PS CS3 as well but also encounter the same error messages. Note that they are loaded in the correct path. The same action files that I can obtained again from it's original source can be loaded. Unfortunately some of the action files that I have is self-created and not obtained elsewhere. I suspect that these action files are corrupted when I copy and moved them back and forth. How do I solve this problem? Thanks for any help rendered.

i think the files are corrupted. I have moved actions from CS2 to CS3 without any problem.

Yes, it's likely that they're corrupted. Both the external drive and pc were formatted using it's own two different CD supllied software. Could this be the cause. Previously I didn't encounter any problem when moving the action files back and forth or overwriting them for backup. Wonder what caused it. Any recovery software for action files available?

I think if the steps are still there, you should just re-create the action... haven't heard of any recover for actions.

Thanks Freaky. There's like two websites that offer actions file recovery for a fee but are likely fakes. I can't re-create them as the steps are complex and I can't recall them anymore. How do I check if the steps are still there? I can't even open the files to view the steps. Is there other software that can open the files besides PS? At least to enable the steps to be read so that I can re-create them.

I just opened them in on a mac text edit... a bit jibberish, but can make out some steps...
will try and see if there is another method

I've tried on Notepad, Wordpad and MS Word. Can't read a thing. All like alien codes. There must be a way. I've been figuring this out for a long while prior to posting for help here. Just discover that there's script/translator tools but I not familiar in this area and don't know how to use them yet.
