i'm no sifu but can i give my comments?
for #1:
it is overexposed. you can obviously see them on the shirt, the "statue" and the poster at his feet. meter on the man esp. on the WHITE shirt as it is easily blown away during daylight. it is ok to underexposed it a bit as you can save them using software.
try to avoid the man overlap with the statue as it will pull attention from the main OBJECT which is the man. try diff angle if you are very sure of your shot.
for #2:
exposure is nice but i can't seem to identify the main subject in the photo. again, experimenting with diff angle can help you getting the right shot.
keep practicing and you'll definitely get it. :D

The first photo's exposure is a bit over. This can be corrected as in your "model photo" in another post.
I like the 2nd photo, the backlit is great for bringing out the subject. However the dark side is too dark and there's no details, so it's a distraction. Photoshopping to bring out the shadow details may spoil the contrast and ruin the subject, I would suggest cropping to eliminate as much as you can of the right foreground.
My 2-cents.

#1 Try earlier part or later part of the day when it's not as bright/hot. Try different angles, too. I'd like to get him at eye level one when he squats :D
#2 Very nice - prefer to crop away the dark area to the right to just before the leaf.
