Question :
PERODUA NAUTICA = TOYOTA RUSH??

Answer :
Its more than that...its also DAIHATSU TERIOS (Kembara Replacement) which is using same platform

According to Paultan.org

The new Perodua Nautica 4WD will be a CBU import from Japan with Perodua badging and styling, though since the car will be a low volume unit there should not be any major changes with the design other than a minor grille change, as it would not be cost effective to do any major restyling with so little units expected to be sold.

Bookings are open from May 10th 2008 onwards. Also released are some official minor specs on the car - a 1.5 liter DVVT engine (likely the 3SZ-VE in the Avanza and Rush) and a 4WD drivetrain, unlike the Toyota Rush’s 2WD drivetrain. It comes in automatic transmission only and has two colour variant - Medallion Grey or Majestic Black.

Perodua will definitely get some flack for bringing in a fully imported CBU unit instead of doing the normal “national car manufacturer” thing and making it here. At the end of the day making a car has been degraded to mere routine assembly of CKD kits anyway.

It's just like paying extra for Peugeot 206, and paying less for Naza Bestari 206. I don't know why the automobile market has become like this. Sigh.

Actually Perodua is run by Daihatsu top line what...in fact..it's just daihatsu rebadged.

Myvi- Sirion
Nautica- Terios

it goes back all the way to the Kancil ainnit?

And in the big picture, Toyota is probably the parent company of Daihatsu...

Daihatsu - Boon & Sirion..(like what?)
Toyota - Passo
Perodua - Myvi
Subaru - Justy

Anyway the Rush is also actually a Terios 7 Seater...The Nautica happens to be the SWB terios...that's all...

Actually, helps with economies of scale... The automotive industry has a HUGE economies of scale problem... That's why there are very few independent car manufacturers around. Cars all over the world are sold as different models elsewhere to save costs....

Surprising... the MYVI was actually a co-op between the Child, father and grandfather (Perodua, Daihatsu & Toyota) in design and engineering... All three companies had their hand in the development.

Actually I don't know whether Perodua had anything to do with the design and engineering. The Myvi was already sold as Daihatsu and Toyota variants a year before it was released in Malaysia

Please la. We're talking about technology transfer and company adoptation and here are u referring to some blog of a confused guy who makes not much sense. Hyundai are too proud to 'follow' Honda. They would rather JV with a european partner than a japanese partner.

Anyway the new Honda Accord's ass looks a bit like BMW 5 series one....from the side. Anyone concur?

Or you can probably say car designers are just getting lazier. It became very obvious with Hyundai Accent looking like the new Toyota Camry, even Honda has make the new Accord look like a BMW 5-series! And I don't see much diff between the new Altis and the previous model. This sux really.

land rover, have to buy used 1. the resale value is quite low compare to the original price.
the fuel comsumption is high also.

Hyundai really have some identity problem.
have you heard the old Hyundai Sonata Radio Commercial?

It goes something like this.
"wow, Look at this Jaguar."
bla bla bla bla
"no, it's the Brand New Hyundai Sonata"

hahahahahh.... even their marketing team think it looks like a jaguar.

The Rush and the Nautica are technically brothers and sisters. One is shorter and one is longer...oopz~ Haha

One has 4 kaki, one has 2 kaki...

something like that la.....and then anything else, it's just cosmetic and badging differences...

u buy this fella now at RM90k don't be surprised if PERODUA decides to produce it at their plant in Rawang and you will find the price suddenly drops. Perodua has said they might produce this if the demand is good. It makes sense for them to do so, economies of scale plus the rebates and savings they can get it done at their plant in Rawang.

So the current market for the Nautica they are targetting now would be guinea pigs.

Realistically speaking it HAS happened before.Lets look a few years back ------> at a particular co called Naza and KIA Corp.
Don't believe me ask anyone who owns the below vehicles.Kia Carens - Naza Citra & Kia Carnival - Naza Ria

Remember, a vehicle called Kia Carens, when it was first launched how much was it ?
More than RM 120,000 if i recalled, now its predecessor is called what ? Naza CITRA, and how much is it , less than RM90,000.

Another classic case, KIA Carnival when it was first launched how much was it RM 160,000 ++, and now its predecessor whats it called, Naza RIA, and how much is it ? RM 100,000.

Both vehicles i clearly remembered buyers who bought the imported version at the higher price were cursing and swearing when Naza decided to mass produce it and sell it at 30% cheaper within a short period of time.

We all tend to forget history, remember this is Malaysia and anything can happen irrespective if its Perodua or Naza.
Irrespective of who has AP's.Choose wisely with your pocket in mind. i've seen the Nautica at the Curve, its pretty ok lar usual plasticky stuff , but a bit high on its price side IMHO.

btw this vehice is below 2.0 litre so road tax is the same.

Well, even so, it might be much later, perhaps 1 year later (earliest) before this happens. By then, this model will have been considered 'dated'.

One more example I can quote is the Peugeot 206 which is now the Naza 206 Bestari. Dated models are given a lifeline by producing locally to make it more affordable and cheaper.

As we speak now, the Perodua Nautica is already almost celebrating its first birthday since the launch in Singapore& Indo in forms of Daihatsu Terios.

It is not likely to find a place in the local plant simply because the Myvi and Viva is being produced and does take up the quota of production for now. Until the demand of these two dwindles, then we can see the Nautica being produced here.

Not to mention, with the 90k price tag, it is unlikely to gain a very large interest. For a bit more, the Kia Sportage is probably a better built model or people might even just pay a few K more for a 7 seater, relatively bigger TOYOTA.

Perhaps, we are really looking at 3 years at least before Perodua produces this Nautica locally.
