It's a decent lens, lightweight and sharp enough.
It's not super sharp at 200mm but ok up to about 150 or 180mm at a push.
The price should be around RM800-900.
I prefer the 70-300mm VR lens, but it's about RM1000 extra and quite a bit larger/heavier.
saw it last week @ ShongLee 1 Utama. Quoted RM830 cash price.
Not sure the performance. No chance to try it out yet...

I would certainly love to obtain one (needing a zoom lens) but I'm not sure how it'll perform in low-light e.g. in the following kind of situation:
http://www.shutterasia.com/forum/showthread.php?p=14785
I've got a feeling from the little that I've read (and I may be saying this out of ignorance) that I should go for a zoom lens with VR but with a f/2.8 - what do the others feel?
Of course, as ST said, there's the price factor.... sigh :D

[...] that I should go for a zoom lens with VR but with a f/2.8 [...]
First, aim for VR + f/2.8 [but no money wor],
then, aim for VR but no f/2.8 [still no money wor],
lastly, aim for no VR no f/2.8 [aih no money, what to do?!].
It's all about the money. :D
Heh heh!

I have tested VR55-200 & VR70-300 last week end.
VR55-200: light weight & Cheap RM850 but too "plastic" & not as sharp as VR70-300
VR70-300: sharp & solid. got "Normal/Active" mode. but heavy & RM1000 more. RM1750

I believe there is a VR and non VR version of this lens right ? Does VR has any side effects like giving not-so-good quality pics in exchange for the vibration reduction ? Or there is only pro and no cons with the VR :)
and does anyone know the lastest price of this lens ?

Some samples from this lens shot at 200mm f/5.6
Hope this helps!
Btw, i love the lens...Think it's sharper than the 18-200VR at the tele end...

opps .. add 1 more question .. this lens can be used by ALL NIKON DSLR right ? coz im using D40 now .. juz incase in the future if i decided to change my body .. this VR lens can be reused ?
your D40 CAN use most of the lenses from Nikon, just the Auto Focus cannot work on nonAF-S and nonAF-I lenses.
As long as you see AF-S and AF-I, then the Auto Focus is works on your D40.
For 3rd party lenses, Sigma HSM works on D40 also.

i bought it around RM820 at YL...YL give a good deal...although i tried to get it more cheaper...
wut i mean is the VR 55-200mm
i am too using the 55-200mm VR,
at 200, it is not as sharp as it was at <200, but still aceptable, and a minor handshake really kills the pic in tele end, thanks to VR, but sometimes it is just unavoidable..
