Tasik Kenyir rocks!

Cherating is pretty nice for beach without going to Island.

i think u should make it Kuantan-Terengganu trip as it is quite near to each other esp. kemaman.

at kuantan, u can enjoy the beach at Teluk Chempedak or Cherating.
at kemaman, u can enjoy the good food. can ask ah chow about it.

For me, the best part of a hol on the east coast is NOT having to decide where to go and where to stay.

Hubby and me would very often just grab some clothes and drive off without any plan. Just Driving along the coast, and into some small fishing village, stop at a keropok lekor mini factory, watch the fishermen bring in their catch at the jetty, try the food at the local pasar malam, etc.

As for accomodation, we've put up at some budget set-ups...can easily find along the coast. Take a lookie at the condition of rooms, etc.Am sure you'll find a place to stay that suits your budget. Sorry, can't remember names of these places. But if you want to stay in the better hotels, I'll reco Tanjong Jara Resort , Awana Kijal, Legend and Impiana at Cherating .Personally, I prefer to drive further up north where the beaches get so much better.

If you happen to drive pass Kemaman, go taste the great coffee and toast at Hai Peng Kopitiam.

Hope this helps.

We went on a group outing last year with some of the other members here. What we did was to drive along the coast, stop wherever there are nice scenes to take photos. Stop for lunch at wherever is convenient and look for hotel/chalet when the light is poor and it is time to go home. We spent one night at Cerating but it was unevenful, to say the least.

We then went to Kuala Trengganu, set up base at Hotel Malaysia (I think) and then plan our outings from there. The trip was fabulous. I really enjoyed it. Don't forget to go to Penarik because the beach and coastline offer you a haven for photographers.

I went back recently to East Coast using the exact route as mentioned by Uncle Noordin trying to retraced the steps which we took last year . I dropped my parents at Club Med for their annual frens gathering and stayed a night there. I took off early morning leaving them enjoying themselves while i stucked myself on the accelerator with a full tank load of fuel:rolleyes: . I drove all the way up to Kuala Terengganu and almost into Kelantan but didnt proceed, was tired man and along the way snapped a total of 5 rolls of films. Nope didnt use digital  change a bit lar. I stayed in Hotel Sri Malaysia at Marang.

I think i did around 1,000km from KL to Kuantan to KT back to KL altogether.

I had no plans no directions nothing at all, just along the way met up an old uni friend in Kuala Terengganu who is working in Kertih.

But if you have intentions to stay in backpackers style of motels, i suggest that you check the place before placing your $$. Some of them places can be pretty scary :D .

in kuantan there are many beaches- teluk chempedak in the town.

northbound are batu hitam, sungai ular and cherating.
southbound are tanjung lumpur (no mud la) and pantai sepat.

there are a lot of cheap hotels in town as well as 5 star accomodation.
