View Full Version : Penang in 24 hours Project

This is a project that has been inspired by Shutter Asia Penang-Kia™. The objective of this project is to capture images of Penang including people & places around Penang Island in 24 hours period; and later will be compiled along with brief information which in hope can be used as guide for other people outside Penang when they come to Penang.
This project will be kick-off on 7th of June 2008 at 5.00AM and will end on 8th of June 2008 at 5AM. Participants will be divided into a few groups. They will be given a specific zone and will be given a checklist of objectives that they need to accomplish within the 24 hours period. We are trying to photograph people, places, events, activities, food and any interesting subjects.
As of today, this project considered as personal project to every participants. So, all expenses will be from your own pockets. Expenses for this project will be only for a few things such as car fuel, food & drinks. The rest are totally subjective to each participant.

This information will be confidential and only be used when dealing with authorities. We will be in contact with local Police to ensure our safety.
Closing date for participating in this event is on 31st of May 2008, 12PM as we need to start organizing and planning for the project.

I have to attend a colleague's wedding dinner on Friday night 6th June
as I have promised her many months ago...but am also keen to take part in this interesting event..may try to leave the dinner by 10 pm and drive up to Penang direct..so may arrive at abt 2am?
Anyone keen to go as well? We can car pool and take turns to drive...:)

can! we didn't set any target on how many photos that we need. we only set the places & subjects that you need to photograph at the designated zone.

we plan to inform local Police about our activity in hope that they will increase their patrol rate at the area that we are going to photograph. these information also will be use in case of emergency when we are dealing with authorities.
however, it is not a compulsary. you may choose not to give away your sensitive information such as IC number. but we still need you contact details just in case we need to inform you on something important.

Safety is one of the issues discussed during meetings. We shall be providing the local authority (ie. Police) with a list of participants details just in case anything happen. Beside, we will be asking the police to increase their patrol of the areas (since participants will be carrying camera and it's expensive), and to provide fast assistance should we need them in case of emergency.

few things I wanna clarify on why we "create" these groups... we have few reason why we do so...
1. we mix all the participants because, we hope all of us can learn from each others from different places, and with different skills and etc...
2. all the 1st participant in every group, they are from Penang, to assist and guide those who are not from Penang the right way, to avoid wasting so much time and also, for safety reason... in fact, Penang is kinda "complicated" sometimes... so it is good if each group has a Penangkia as your local guide.
3. of course, to make new friend... we try not to put in those who already knew each other in the group, so that besides sharing experience, you can also get to know new friends... For your information, we have participants who are not from Malaysia also, besides Freaky... :P and also not from ShutterAsia...
:) feel free to let me or I should say, us to know if you have any concern on the grouping...

Dear participants,
First of all, we would like to thank you for joining us!
We hope that you have made the necessary preparations for the BIG day. To keep you updated, below are the information that you need to know.
Event Flow and Concept:-
1. All participants have been divided into 3 groups. Each group has at least ONE local guide and an assistant. All the group members will be travelling in groups even though you need 2 cars to fit all the group members.
Car pool is encouraged and fuel or other expenses for transportation of the 24 hours is to be born by the group members. Each group member’s email will be sent after this, so that you may contact and liaise with your group members.
2. Each group will draw an envelope. Each envelope contains assignments which must be completed by every group in 24 hours. Once the groups have completed the assignments given, the group members can continue to shoot whatever they want. Time management is very important in order to complete the assignments. So plan it once you have the assignments on the day itself.
3. We have 3 major break times:-
i) 11.30am to 1.30pm
ii) 8.00pm to 9.30pm
iii) 1.00am to 3.30am.
During the break times, all groups must proceed to our meeting point which is the Pixels Digital Media Community Centre. (You can see the map at www.Penanglive.com (http://www.Penanglive.com)) Of course, you local guide will bring you there! For the break time from 1.00am to 3.30am, we will meet at a mamak stall, which we will inform you of, on that day itself.
Things you might want to bring along:-
1. extra batteries and memory cards if you have
2. battery’s charger
3. camera tripod
4. umbrella
5. face towel
6. extra t-shirt or pants (and maybe underwear… )
7. torch light
8. medicine (in case you are on medication)
9. slipper/sport shoe
Guidelines:-
1. Be aware of your surroundings. Beware of snatch thief.
2. Bring your belongings with you all the time so that you don’t leave anything behind.
3. Look out for each other.
4. When in doubt, ask.
5. Discuss among members on cost sharing (ie. pool up an amount of money and use it for petrol, parking etc.)
6. As you are moving in groups, try not to cause any commotion or do anything that would disturb others (eg. crowding in front of someone’s shop and shooting like nobody’s business). Ask for permission if possible.
7. Keep clean.
8. Always ask permission before shoot. (especially shooting people)
9. HAVE FUN!
Lastly, we need your re-confirmation on your participation.
1. Kindly reply to this email and state your confirmation
2. And we would also need a short name that you want printed on your ID tag. Yes, we will give away ID tag for this program as a memorable token.
3. There will be a Liability Release Form that you need to complete with signature during our briefing session at 5.00am on 7th June 2008.
4. Please do let us know if you have any serious sickness (high blood
pressure, diabetes, etc).
