Ok fellow Canon users. Its time to "promote" :P
Tell us why did you choose a Canon DSLR over other brands.
Keep it to technical advantages as well as the reasons behind your choice.
Do not flame other brands, and lets keep it clean. Promote without hate - its as simple as that. :D
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I choose CANON because...
1. The noise level at high ISO is low compared to others. ISO1600 is awesome.
2. The L lenses looks cool, especially the white ones :P and the red ring around it makes it even more cooler!
3. Future options of FF DSLR
4. Accessories abundance in KL, which is good.
5. Affordability on entry level such as 350D and more advance ones like the 30D

1) becoz canon have 50F1.2, 200F2.8 and 400F5.6
2) becoz in 2-4 yrs time, Used 1DM2 will price at region 6-8K...

haha, ok. Simple only:
1. Because first cam is canon, already get used with the user interface
2. CMOS, low noise at high ISO

inherit canon system :D
1) Canon's high quality lenses. I fell in love with 'em
2) Good noise level at high ISOs
3) Great start off and also great line-up. Plan to go FF in the future
4) Stock of gear wouldn't be a problem. Always have stock
5) User interface was much easier to access. Almost every function I need is right under my fingertips
i just love the Dail menu, fell in love with it when i saw the EOS 5 many donkey years ago

Low noise so can take more pic and less time photoshoping...
own Digic techonology & cmos and does not depand on third party CCD or Cmos heance faster development of technology .... but i hope other catch up also so that canon can keep their price compatitive
able to go full frame in the future :P

year 2000 when my interest came back after sooo many years..after browsing through all major brands sites...found that canon was the most extensive with a lot of articles on the photography...decided then and stick with it..thought of getting nikon when looking for my second body but then got to have new set of lense and flash etc...

Because I anticipate doing the sort of photography where noise would be a problem. Astrophotography and event photograhy, just to name a few.
It was 2004 when I started looking, and the 350D was a no brainer choice, having the lowest noise of'em all, and all other aspects seem to be up to standard. Plus unlike most users, I can fit all my fingers on the grip without adding the battery grip :p
Besides, its dirt cheap (for a dSLR at least....)

cos:
- low noise at high ISO
- L lens is so sexy (not that i can afford it now)
- previously was using Canon Powershot S80, so i was 'branded' already
- cheaper compared to D70s or Alpha

I choose due to Canon has passion into their business. They make things from end to end. From CMOS to digic processor chip. The main rival only focus on certain part of the camera. Lastly, it is still Made is Japan (for SLR).

my friend as a journalist recommends canon for quicker response than nikon

* Low noise – I shoot a lot of low light… n I dun like flash
* Full frame – I know… its no big deal, but at least I have a choice to use full frame or stick to 1.6 crop… or may b even use both….
* I think canon is always in the lead for photographi technology… look at 1D Mark III... when is 7D comin out?
* my sifu who alwayz influence me to use nikon eventually also switch to canon.... the seduction of the dark force is too strong.....
* lastly… wat other SLR brand can do… canon can do also… but wat canon can do… otherz may not able to do… hehe….
but i alwayz support all the SLR brand.... competition benefits the consumers... so stick to ur current brands... afterall its is about photographi not brands...

another great reason is you can have 85mm f1.2L, 50mmF1.2L kind of lense which no other has it at the moment provided you have the money la :D
sample of 85mm 1.2L it feel great when u know u can have this in the future ;)
just look at how it can isolate out and make your subject stand out

Hi, i just migrated from A mount system to the white side,
what made me to decidedd to switched over is:-
1) Low noise in high ISO.
2) Easy to get its' extra accessories and lenses.
because of sooo many choice of lens..eventhought i cant afford all lenses..:D..
got so many canon camera..eos 66..300D..and upcoming 400D...
because they have white lens..
mhafizahmad
06-24-2007, 02:29 PM
1. Good noise control even at ISO1600.
2. I got a fullframe (EOS 50E) and almost all the accessories can be use
together.
3. Good menu navigation in DSLR, user friendly.
4. Don't like to follow trends coz' 90% of my officemate are using Nikon, sigh..
5. I like to shoot sports, events, and gigs.. So I think Canon is the most suitable
to my needs.

I chose Canon because I already had an EOS 1000Fn with 28-80 and 75-300 and they could share lenses n' stuff.
I've been tempted to change a few times... but it gets harder as time goes on. Too many lenses invested on the Canon side now. :P

things might change when nikon change their sensor to CMOS.
Be very frank, even though i am canon supporter, i do admit the nikon body built is much better than canon. can u imagine a prosumer grade like 30d or 40d still feel plastic??
further, recently nikon seems like really did their market survey well and respond to market demand much spot on than canon.
Nikon range of lenses for APS-C camera seems like wider than canon.
If canon still not doing something, i think i might 'jump' over, after they launch the new d300...

I agree that Nikon has better build than Canon - feels very metallic. But in the end what makes me choose Canon above other is the picture itself - so good with high ISO. And I believe Canon will strenghten their fight with the release of EOS 5D successor - soon I hope and in time to counter Nikon's D3/D300. With stiff competition at hand, we buyer will benefit from lower price tag ;)

Canon, much usable in high ISO, even my 400D can handle noise well. Also, Canon lenses are top notch with the cheaper price than the nikon.
However, nikon gives better hold and feel* though this doesn't bother me at all. Now, the D300 capable of handling high ISO too.
I'm still die-hard canon user. L poison is running deep into my vein and no antidote cures me. As long as Canon keeps improving their ISO control and those lenses with red ring, I am not jumping to nikon.

Funny how many people mention 'N' in this topic and compare their Canon to 'N'.
Compare with the same topic in the 'N' forum, there is much less 'C' talk there...
Seriously, be it a 'C' or a 'N', both companies deliver some serious good cameras. Image quality at even levels is very very similar at low and high ISO.
Menus and buttons are individual taste but once used to it everyone will love his choice.
Both companies tend to leapfrog each other in terms of development and such competition is good for us customers. Just played around with a 40D and have to say it had a very solid feel and grip to it, felt like a 'N'...while the high ISO performance of the D300 I recently ried is much improved over the D200, about the same as the 40D.
At the end of the day one can't go wrong with those two companies.

400D has always won over its rivals as posted in magazines.
Besides low noise, USM lens, L lens, blah blah as all others has mentioned, one thing that impressed me is the service centre. It has more service centre compare to others. More importantly the service there is very good and efficient. Sometimes for minor problem jz one day can 'kau tim'.

I could be missed something for leaving photography for quite a long time...err which brand that recently released 21mpx dslr? Canon or nikon..and why (the other company) took so long to produce 21mpx dslr and still at 12mpx. The worst thing it smells Sony......hahahahah!

Why Canon?
My 1st Canon EOS1000 18 years ago - good film camera but have sticky shutter curtain problem.....overall have quite a good experience with the control dial....
2nd is Power Short G2 (3.2 MP) - a very versatile compact - value for money at that time ~ RM2-3k!!!
Then looking for DSLR from 2006 till 2008, only Olympus was on my list due to the live view and small foot-print and crop factor of 2.....smaller lighter lens & body.....but price is killing me......and limitd on accessories, was going for E3, but price..... .....Nikon.....don't like the look and feel.....Sony...too young and less choice........
Then at the last minutes found out the good look, feel, handling and quality of Canon 40D, and everything is history now.......

publicity plays an important role in daily life as i first saw the canon adverd introducing their cameras but i seldom see "n" brand...
so the 1st PnS i bought was a Canon brand without any research and knowledge on photography (IXUS 55) and as well as the 2nd when i wanna upgrade to IS (IXUS 860IS) as i done a little research on it...
at last i consider back Canon EOS 450D because:
1) able to use wide range of lenses from EF-S to EF not like nikon have many kind/type of stupid lenses (i also lazy to do research for it)
2) all professional uses Canon and i hope 1 day able to upgrade to full frame and utilise back my previous lenses
3) canon has their own latest technology and the world first affordable APS-C dslr also from canon and other brand start to follow canon foot step in order to capture some market from being monopolised by canon
4) because of Simon Yam

Digic, EF & L (PLUS a comprehensive 3rd party accesories' support) - the NAME of the PHOTOGRAPHY GAME indeed!!!
5) my cousin oso share same hobby and has almost all the gr8 lenses, so can borrow..too...he...he...
Similarly with me - my 2nd cousin kind of indirectly influenced me into the 400D as he himself is a user :D

1) fotokem guy reckon 350D over D40...and so it begins :)
then i learnt:
2) it has greater range of lenses (esp.. luv the white ones!)
3) lens type easier to understand
4) yes dwayne :), luv the USM...smoooth!!
5) my cousin oso share same hobby and has almost all the gr8 lenses, so can borrow..too...he...he...

Yeah.... Hahaha... And they are friendly... If remember well, got one presentable gal there..
Compare to Nikon... last time I send my D70 to clean the sensor... Old auntie... really sien... :azz:
I really hope both companies are listening and improve on thier respective service customers. Just pay more to get those presentable one la... And after getting back your camera and lenses, you can also use them as test subject to confirm the gears are in good shape ma... One stone 2, 3 birds...

Being new to slr's when I bought my camera, I don't really know much so for me it was between 400d & d40x. No doubt d40x seems to be built slightly better but the buttons on the 400d (and its respective functions) were just where I needed them and just what I needed. I find it very easy to use and the shutter sound was nice :) Now, no regrets so it's Canon forever I guess haha.

Simply because my father used a Canon 7. A hand-me down Canonet was followed by purchase of a Canon AE-1 with an FD 35-70mm then followed by a Canon A-1 with a FD 35mm f.2. Now surviving on an IXUS 4.0 and hoping to make a kill on the G10.

In the mid-90s, I choose Canon because of the eye-control AF on the EOS 50E, and the first IS lens. Also, the 50E with the silver 24-85 looks good.
So when the time comes to upgrade to digital, those lenses and flash already owned were big factors. In 2004 there was nothing comparable to the 20D.
Now with 4 lenses and 2 flashes, I had no choice but to get a 50D. And a fifth lens, the 18-200.
