Dear Mr Leslie,

Thank you for your email.

In terms on how to justify between original set is our Nikon standard warranty card is “yellow” colour and also on the warranty card will stated the camera distributed by Nikon (M) Sdn. Bhd.
So, if your warranty card is other than the colour which is above mentioned, it means that they are from grey products.

Hope my reply does meet your enquiries.

Thanks & regards,

Hi there i am planning to buy a D200 very soon but i have seen a lot of grey D200's being sold by camera stores in KL.

I would like to know how could i differentiate between a grey set and a Malaysia Warranty set distributed by Nikon Malaysia.

Could you kindly help me in this. Understand grey sets are cheaper 10-15% of the market price, but i rather stick to local Malaysia Warranty to have a more secured one year guarantee.

Thanks
Regards

This information is to highlight the differences between a GREY SET and a MALAYSIA WARRANTY SET as sold by camera outlets in Kuala Lumpur & whole of Malaysia

The difference of course is the pricing, grey sets offer a marginal % discount in price compared to local Malaysia Warranty sets.

Local Malaysia Warranty sets are warrantied by Nikon Malaysia Sdn Bhd for a full one year period as laid out in the terms and conditions.

Grey sets are warrantied by the store owners.

This information is for all of you who want to purchase anything from Nikon Malaysia. I believe the same is for Canon & other camera makes eg Olympus, Sony & others.

You be the judge for yourself in what you would want to purchase, the choice is yours.

If you have any more questions please feel free to contact the above Emily for further clarification.

While in Hong Kong recently, I was informed by a Nikon dealer that as far as cameras are concerned, warranty for those sold in HK is only valid in HK, Macao & China. Whereas, all Nikon lenses are covered by international warranty. Anyone has any input to this?

So if I buy a Grey market Nikon, if something happens on in any problem with the camera there will be no repair service will be given by Nikon Malaysia, is that it?

If like that what is the meaning of the international warranty? :?

i already asked Nikon Malaysia while send my camera for servicing.. they already said camera body covered under own country, means u buy at HK,so the camera is under Nikon HK warranty..if u want to send it to Nikon Malaysia, they will charge u for repairing service rate.. yup, only Nikkor lenses covered by international warranty..

Since this is already about Nikon warranty i would like to share my recent experience here.

Last week, i had sold my kit lens to a very nice gentleman. Yeah. It is the 18-55. Too bad, the lens jam and fail to work within 3 days. As it is still under warranty, i make a full refund to the buyer. That was the story for short.

Long story is about, i do give the new owner everything. Including the warranty card. When the lens jam, the new owner bring it to a shop (owner refrain from tell me which shop), and the shop was saying that the warranty is void due to the peel of the silver ring(i did peel off the whole ring due to uncomfortable when holding it). Come'on, the silver ring is just sticker. Not anything solid!! Even though the pain will become dull after sometimes. That is just normal wear and tear!!

The buyer call me about it. Since the lens fail him in a very short period, 3 days, so that i make an offer of full refund to the buyer (i feel that my responsibility). (I think my lens not happy with new owner...just joking anyway:tongue_roll:) This morning, i bring the lens to Nikon service center. Yea, you got it. PKNS @ PJ State!! Guess what? They didn't ask any question and straight away ask me to fill up a form and print me a statement. Of course, i did provide my warranty card and prove of purchase. They give me the statement for less than 10 minutes and ask me to leave the lens there for 2-3 weeks.

What am i trying to say is, try not to ask shops to claim for your warranty. PKNS is near, and probably you can get the most direct answer and service from Nikon staff. By knowing which shop telling that is also useless for most of us i think. As they always have the right not to claim for us, as we are not purchase from him.

IF you were to claim warranty or service your Nikon, HEAD to Nikon @ PKNS YOURSELF!! That would be much better and faster!!

I'm here to apologize for the hassle that created to the buyer!! Sorry that you came all the way from Kajang and bring a defeat good home!! And thx for your patient.

Why take NIKON equipment to a retail outlet for a warranty claim when it clearly states take it to Nikon themselves..

I would recommemd 100% ALWAYS take it directly to Nikon.

will they allow claim if don't provide proof of purchase just show them warranty card?

They will looks @ your serial number before anything else. The unfill warranty don't meant a **** to them if you can't prove the prove of purchase when they request.

Let say they record the serial number by 2004, do you think they will honour the warranty today without the prove of purchase? Seriously I don't think so. But when i brought my stuff to claim, i did brought my resit. I actually show my warranty card and prove of purchase to them together. So no question ask, and ask me to fill up the form.

let me add something here. eventhough the serial number is from 2004 or 2005 etc..it does not mean that the equipment is not under warranty. warranty period starts when you first bought the item which will be clearly shown on the receipt. best to have both your warranty card which will have the printed "Nikon (Malaysia)" and also your receipt from the shop that you bought from with the important date of purchase.

yeah same thing goes to other items as well, for example I bought an ipod in march and spoiled in june they said warranty started in jan (where shop bought it) I showed them the bill than they change it to march...

For the nokia phone I bought they didn't ask the warranty card, just check imei is enough so unfill warranty camera doesn't mean anything..
