Maybe you can organize a TT and ask all those with 70-200 bring them over. Then you can test them all with ur camera.

I dun mind bringing as long as it around PJ / KL :redface::redface:

shud i send back to nikon lo....?

bro, if that gives you the peace of mind, go ahead. there's no harm doing it. at least you know it'll be thoroughly inspected. if you find after that it's still not sharp, at least you know that it's not the lens, but your technique using the lens that needs to be improved.

Like this idea, it eliminates possibilities :)

not all lens sharp at wide open :rasta:

簡單的講同「球面像差」有關:
Spherical aberration
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spherical_aberration

先理解一下「球面像差」再想想收細光圈就是把"焦平面"孔徑縮少,使偏差了的光路阻擋從而減少了光暈,成像就會更為清晰!
http://article.xitek.com/showarticle.php?id=2346

光圈收得太細又會出現 繞射/衍射 Diffraction 影響成像!

Have you tried the lens with other Nikon bodies? Certain camera+lens combinations might have issues.

Could the problem be back-focusing (i.e. the camera focusing behind the desired point of focus)?

I haven't got the 70-200VR but I find that my 80-200 f/2.8 ED isn't razor sharp at f/2.8 either. Although it's still sharper than any other telephoto lens I've used, it only starts to get really sharp once you reach f/3.5 to f/4 (like your lens, I suppose)

Heard a lot of issue in this 70-200 vr lens. Sometime is not due to the lens nor the camera. Is the software we use to view RAW files. JPEG no issue.

I view RAW files in "Nikon View" and the phot turn out to be sharper than view it in Adobe Camera Raw. It is because "Nikon View" can read the settings set by the camera. (eg: Sharpening settings in camera.)

Correct me if I am wrong.

scary to think that after plonking nearly rm6k for this lens, you still hv such issues. i thought it is "the" lens to go for ?? or is this an exception ?
