Folks .. I know i should not ask such a thingy but recently you can say um kinda out of track,
Regarding the Metering Modes
Spot metering
Center-weighted average metering
Average metering
Partial area metering
Multi-zone metering
Kindly; give me some simple info about:
1- time and photography type best on each type,
2- some technical information about those modes and how to get perfect outcomes using the proper mode for proper image type.
I have the digital rebel xti, better to know the info fits the camera i use.
I d appreciate you help.

lit,
based on my limited knowledge i think
average metering and multi zone metering are the same... just tht the name used is diff; and,
center weighted and partial metering are the same.
Try reading http://www.photozone.de/4Technique/metering.htm
Ah, the marketing man has succeeded in confusing another poor soul.
There are essentially 4 types of metering: average, center-weighted, spot/partial and multi-zone.
Average metering gives the average reading of the entire area.
Center-weighted is average metering plus emphasis given to an area in the center (ie. biased towards the center where the subject normally is).
Spot or partial metering takes the reading off an area in the center and disregards the outside. If the area read is a small or narrow area, it is generally referred to spot metering. If the area is larger, it is usually referred to as partial metering.
Multi-zone metering divides the whole area into many zones. A metering is taken off each zone and the camera will analyse all the readings and come out with a meter reading based on stored values or an algorithm.
Average metering was the original for general purpose use. Then center weighted came along to reduce metering errors in scenes with strong backlighting or spotlighting. Multi-zone metering is now the essential metering mode that has superseeded both of them for general purpose use.
Spot or partial metering is used when the photographer wants a specific meter reading of an area without letting the camera take charge. That's when the brain takes over. ;)
