This is my old setup. I used it from July 2007 till Nov 2007. Then i got myself an SB800, but still the same old styrofoam plate. I built a snoot a few days ago, which gives me at least one stop more of light efficiency :)...

i started off with the same easy to make/ cheap plus efficient diffuser as OM which is the styrofusser
then i made myself a snootfusser similar to the ones OM and LM is using now..
and on 14th of June 08 i built this (with help from wifey).. better light distribution but still haven't done comparison for light loss efficiency compared to the other two.. cost less than rm5 and very lightweight..
i present to you ringfusser :D

the whole diffuser extends and retract together with the lens to maintain light source from around the front end of the lens..

My turn. Had made many variations, but this is the latest of my many setups.
Macro Setup No.1 aka Boston
Gears used:
Canon DSLR + Grip
Canon 580 EX Flash
Canon OCE-3 (Off Cord Cable)
Kenko Extension Tubes
85mm Lens
Canon EE-S - Super precision matte E
ZF to EOS mount with AF Confirmation Chip :p
Made some notes on Flickr to point out which is which http://flickr.com/photos/tang_yiming/2593441352/
Diffusing Details
Diffusing is done, via Stofen Diffuser + Bubble Wrap over it.
Some simple information
The main reason for this simple set up is due to my recent streamlining of lenses. Keep less lens, use the ones around more often. WIth the 85mm I can double it as a good portrait and macro lens with a shift of the Kenko Tubes.
Why not other focal lengths and the tubes ? - Well, 85mm is a wonderful range to work but I guess I won't be able to pull out big magnifications as before until I switch to Set Up No.2 :p

I guess I'll post something here..
I started off with a Coke-can diffuser.. the same ones like LordV's.
<Picture missing>
Then, on June 6, 2008.. I modified the Coke-can diffuser by adding a snoot to direct the light towards in front of the lens.
23662
Then, as of June 22, 2008.. I will be using this..
23663
Have not tested this new setup in the open. Will make sure this setup gets a fair share of outdoor action. :D
