What's the longest exposure you can without starting to get star trails?

Could you do 1 minute at ISO800 instead?

if 1 minute, the trail become longer, depends on you, if u dun mind, it's ok. the best time for not look like trail is 20-30 sec

But there's an equipment you can mount the slr on to avoid the kind of trail right? What's it called? :)

it's equatorial mount, with the motor, it'll following the star movement, so the star won't be become trail, but the landscape will, so if u want to take the landscape, cannot use this.

I think i got confused...i am refering to the one that counter the earth rotation?

An typical equatorial mount designed for the use of astronomy observation. Since it can follow the star motion in the night sky, so we can attach our camera on it to do long exposure and stars still remain pin-point.

There also got a design which is small size as 12V battery block. We attach a ball head and then our camera on the ball head. It also can follow the sky motion. The cost is about 1k.
