As u all know my nick 'zamrudku' refers to me wife........but in reality there are 2 more jewels in my life. One of those, namely my eldest daughter......Maisarah. Taken here with the 70-300 VR.
Took this just to compare the contrast, saturation and bokeh against my 85mm.
Presenting the other 'zamrud' (emerald).............

LOL..........yes yes true..I have in-house model now.....actually my daughter's a bit cheeky yet cheerful....just want to capture the other side of her.
wahsey wheres the comparison?
Haiya..........comparison bokeh only lah.......not the photos. Coz I only bring one lens that day. Can't bring too much......have to care my daughter at the same time....dangerous these days. Actually I was referring to my earlier post which I'm comparing it with. Maybe I'll have a shoot of my other daughter with both the 85 and the 70-300 this weekend and we'll see how. Sorry about that.

Zul, to have a comparison of the lens. The subject must be shot in a control environment. Same subject, same focal length, same aperture, same lighting control. :P
But......For me..If it is about bokeh, 85 1.4 wins hands down..

Some would compare apples with apples..........but for me I just want to see what the normal average joe would see.......is it a nice picture or is it otherwise? I'm not trying to compare them with the same focal lengths and apertures etc etc. I just want to see them as it is. Period.
Maybe it's unfair........(trying to compare them in such manner) but thats all I can do for now. I'm happy as it is (the comparison that is). Yes, some would swear on their gears. I've nothing against the 1.4, It's really is a GREAT lens.........I'm only trying to compare the ones that I have. What I can do with them......to understand their limitations.
It's what you want to do with them is what matters..........some ppl like oranges and some apples....for different reasons. Mine's this.
My 2 kupang.

Some say that when u use it on the longest end......pic quality's kinda soft. I'm not a die hard fan or a sucker of ultra sharp lenses. For me it's still acceptable. But if u want ultra sharpness......then dun go beyond 200mm and u'll be fine. But for me sometimes I need the big aperture if I'm shooting indoors. That's what I'll miss most with this lens. I dun mind about the usability of the longer end of this lens though, if thats what u mean.

Thanxalot fren - I quite echo your idea - I am thinking NOT to dabble with the Ultrazoom lens when I purchase a DSLR sooner or later - I dah ada pilihan lain (for a start, only utilising kit lens plus some mods/conversion) :D
