i read somewhere about the difference of the metering when using different focusing screen on FM2n.

for example, if one use split scree, and the other one using screen with horizontal/vertical lines screen (i forgot what it is called), so both camera with give different metering?

can anyone verify this? :?

the horizontal+vertical lines one is called a "Type E" focus screen :)

and yes when you use certain screens on certain cameras, you need to compensate the exposure coz some screens are brighter than others.

here's an article: http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/hardwares/classics/nikonfeseries/fefmshared/html/screens.htm

and here's a quick image reference:

I don't think the FM2n is capable of it.

Some of the older SLR's metering is dependent on the focusing screen because the metering is located in the prism. But this was done away with when SLRs started having the meter inside the body.

Canon's F1n was probably the last SLR to have its metering built in the prism - http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/hardwares/classics/canonf1n/metering/index.htm

as far as i know FM2/FM3A/FE2 reads the light at the prism..and the F3 is the only Nikon MF camera to read light under the mirror.

Oops - I was refering the metering patterns. With Canon's F1n, you can get spot metering, etc, by changing the focusing screens.

i read the stuffs from mir website too. but i got lost somewhere between the sea of words.

so even if i change the focusing screen, it will still use 12mm center-weighted metering?
