Something that always bugged me was using any flash wif Pentax 50mm f/1.4 Manual lens. Seems the P-TTL metering does not work with the lens at all, and always fires at maximum power, rendering all my pictures overexposed. Is there any way to solve this. I am trying to maintain small aperture (around f/2.8) for portraiture. Even bouncing+diffuser does not seem to help.
Im using a SIGMA EF-500 DGST Flash with Pentax K100D btw.
Edit: One way Ive tried is to DiY-build a super thick diffuser, but it's huge, clunky and awkward looking.

emmm... pretty difficult to suggest
normally using diffuser+bounce to ceiling would help.
perhaps the aperture set was quite big at f/2.8 (..the bigger the f-stop no., the smaller the aperture..hope u don't mind me correcting u :) )
...if f/2.8 is your preffered aperture, then maybe you wanna try adjusting the exposure bias (EV) ...say -1.3 or more
good luck!
i dont think manual lenses (non-cpu lenses) provide TTL information correct me if i'm wrong..
you'll just have to manual compensate on your flash unit

ive read that the sigma doesnt give consistent exposure when used with nikons wireless flash system. does the internal flash do the same?
edit:opps i think gr2k is correct.

Just set manual mode 1/8 or 1/16 power depending what you need.

i have a same problem to. i use sunpak pz42x(canon) since 5 month ago. the problem is when i use auto mode, when i adjust the focal length i did not hear the motor rotating at the head of flash. the flash lamp will move forward and backward inside flash head if we adjusting the focal length. Now no move again, that is my problem, im so regret buy third party flash. huhuhu:(

I find even with SB-800 and Nikon D2Xs on TTL or 580 EXII and 1DMkIII on eTTL gives poor and uncertain results. I set on manual and do one or two test shots with reduced flash output setting to suit. That way is the best for me.

Yup agree with both of them.
