This is my another one of my attempts at trying to achieve a sharper manual focus on the AF-D 50mm f1.8 (as the D40 is unable to AF).

I do not think I've achieved that elusive goal of sharp focus. Are my expectations realistic?

After all, that's a small viewfinder...but that shouldn't be an excuse. Maybe I need to have my eyes checked

But of course if I wanted macro shots, I should use the right lens. Anyway here's for checking:

#1. Hermit crab (reduction in size to 800x532 from 3008x2000)

2379

#2. Same hermit crab (cropped at 800x600 off 3008x2000)

2378

#3. Spider (reduction in size to 800x532 from 3008x2000)

2381

#4. Same spider (cropped at 800x600 off 3008x2000)

2380

Looks like you need a reversing ring ... ! :D:D

I think you've done waaaay so much better than I could on the manual focus :D It's really not easy getting a spot-on focus using the viewfinder

Looks like you need a reversing ring ... ! :D:D
Or maybe some macro filters :D

That looks like one option. I'm reluctant though ... wouldn't that expose the inside of the lens to dust? Thanks anyway.

Why, thank you! Though I still think there is more room for improvement on my part.

Hmm, I am now thinking about a Hoya 52mm CU set +1, +2, +4 filter :rasta:

I have that set too, and the Raynox DCR-250. Most of the time, I'm using the raynox coz i like the ease of snapping it unto the lens instead of having to screw it on as with the Hoya set. But it's just a personal preference la :D

The crab looks sharp, but the lynx is a bit soft. Good effort though.

Btw blur, I've also noticed that images from cheap closeup filters suffer from severe chromatic abberation and spherical distortion, which doesnt happen with the raynox. :rasta:

Ya! Crazymalaysian has one too and I'll have to make some time off for a TT together. Missed the one at FRIM, otherwise I could have tried his Raynox DCR-250. Online price at US30.00?

Thanks Crazymalaysian. Will make it one day for a TT! With all the options laid on the table and through massive googling last night and this evening, I think the Raynox DCR250 looks erm... menggoda haha :D

Looks like it's sold out at McGill's at the moment of this post!

But I bought mine from http://www.lensmateonline.com/newsite/order_A620A610_1.html instead. That time I got it for USD41.95 + USD12.00 (shipping). But it looks like the price has now increased to USD55.95 for the lens.
