All sifu,
I'm new here. Just wondering which lens is better? Anyone can help me? I checked the price for 2nd hand 18-200mm VR is almost same as the new 16-85mm VR. :?

it will always depends on what you like to shoot more... but if for me, I will go for 16-85mm VR instead of 18-200mm VR... Unless I am kind of lazy person who travel a lot, then I will get 18-200mm as it almost cover the complete range of lenses already... :D

i love to travel. If want to compare the sharpness of the this two lens, 16-85mm is better, rite? I read from magazine, the 18-200 VR sharpness is getting down after the 70mm focul lenght.

haha, if you love to travel, and don't want the big camera bag with lenses to be your burden, maybe 18-200 VR will be your best choice d...

16-85mm is better.
Pair it with a 70-300mm VR and you're rocking.
16-85 better quality
18-200 better reach
you can't have both :) but with the same amount of money, i'd get 16-85 + 80-200 f/2.8 push pull (instead of 70-300vr)

I've used both. Based on experience, I'll go with 16-85 VR. Sharper & less distortion than the 18-200 VR. ;)

Look like more ppl like 16-85 than 18-200. But in fact, i got my 2nd hand 18-200mm VR liao. Look like i make a wrong choice...:(
Should i sell the lens and get the 16-85 vr?

no need...just keep the 18-200VR and enjoy taking pics...that's the most important thing...gear secondary.... later u add more arsenal depending wat u like to shoot...

Well Huei..it depends..but for me..i personally vote for 16-85..i've done a comparison between this two lens ..and looks like the 16-85 won in term of sharpness..here's some sample taken with 16-85 for u..this two pics are taken straight from the cam..no pp or crops were done

Hi all sifus,
Can I tumpang this thread?
I am new and planned to buy the D80 body with a separate lens.
Initially, i thought of getting the 18-200mm VR only but with that budget I was wondering if i could have another option to get 2 lenses (such as the 16-85mm VR + a telephoto lens) since 18-200mm VR is not an ideal lens that can produce a perfect sharpness as compared to using 2 lenses.
Please advise. Thx

Thank you so much to all the advices. I just found this sites. I think it make me more clear to just keep my 18-200mm VR. Check this out.:D
