thinking to upgrade my 400D to either 40D or 5D. well i know very well i cant afford a new 5D mark 2 if the estimated pricing is RM10k and above. So, any advise and beside full frame, is there any other comparison in term of photo quality?

Sorry for asking such a noobies question, i am so blur now which one to go for

i love the colour and noise control of 5D and love the focusing on 40D...hmm how leh

Different beasts, for a wedding shooter I'd 100% go for 5D, but you gotta learn how to handle it - it's not easy.

And then you need REAL expensive glass, full frame pushes lenses to the limits.

Expensive lenses like 24-70mm, 16-35mm, 85mm f1.2, 50mm f1.2 ooh gosh, my pocket hole is getting bigger....

Some of my friends ask me to wait, some of them ask me just to get 5D now, since i hv jobs till end of the year, and some ask me to get 40D first... i am totally confused

Like ST said, they're very different cameras. The 5D is a FF, so dynamic range is good but it isn't very easy to control. You can blow out highlights easily although if well used, image quality is excellent. The 40D is more of a general-purpose and is faster in terms of burst shooting.

Also, you'll need good EF lenses and might also need to stop-down the f/number to avoid vignetting. I know about all this because my dad has one and it's purely based on what I've experienced with it.

hey edwin, im actually goin through the same dilemma of gettin the 5d. my advice, just stay put till the 5d replacement is out. if its out of budget...just get the 5d then. prices will drop even further then...only trouble is actually findin stock for the 5d.

40d paired with the 17-55mm f2.8 IS USM is sufficient in gettin the job done for weddings. however, i still envy colours & contrast from the 5d. sigh...

I'm using a 40D and i'm very happy with it

But if you want to buy the 5D than i agree with ddkwh , wait till there is an upgrade or replacement for it.

just wait for the new 5D replacement.. by then the existing 5D price should drop for stock clearance and who knows you might be able to get a used 5D and 40D at the same budget you have right now.. how's that? tempting to have both? fast crop sensor camera and a FF.. :D

Yah it makes sense to a lot of people, crop camera with 70-200mm f/2.8 gives better reach, full frame cam with wide angle prime for natural light shots.

for me, i prefer things to be the consistent. that's just my personal preference.
but of course, u can treat the crop sensor body as having a teleconverter.

Myself I prefer 70-200mm on FF.
Better ISO performance allows me to shoot where with DX IQ would suffer.
Means I still can shoot with 200mm a low light with good IQ while with DX I would be sipping beer in the pub already...

Well, sipping beer instead of taking pics, that's not a bad thought either...:P
