Hi all canonian,
I knew the nikon D40/40x/60 body do not have built-in motor, thus, a tamron 17-50 (2.8 non VR) can't AF on the D40/40x/60.
The tamron 17-50 (2,8 non IS) canon mount can fit into any canon dslr and AF right? Does it means all canon dslr body comes with built-in motor for AF function?
Sorry, I have no ideal about canon dslr, except those point&shoot A series.
Thanks in advance

All EF mount lenses are Electro Focus lenses, thus, AF is done by a dedicated motor built into the lens.:):)
Read more from Wikipedia:- HERE (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canon_EF_lens_mount)!!!:cool:

Thanks for the info.
Thus, most of the 3rd party lenses for canon mount comes with built-in motor, including the tamron 17-55mm f2.8 lens, right?
I'm keen to use this tamron lens, instead of canon kit lens, just want to ensure it can be AF on any canon body, unlike the nikon D40/40x/60.

All lenses for EF mount cameras have built in motor- either USM, HSm or normal motor so no worry.:):):):)
Canon's system comprises of an AF motor in the lenses. The lenses autofocus by communicating with the body through gold contacts with the body's AF sensor. EOS bodies don't have motors in themselves.

The new tamron 17-50 f2.8 (perhaps tamron dont have 17-55) is AF with D40/D60/D40x.
basically nikon systems (besides the entry level) AF with a slotted screw-drive from the body (unless it's AF-S..similar to canon's USM)
while modern canon systems have no slotted screw-drive on the body...all the motors are built into the lenses (whether USM or not)
