hmmm looked through the forums but didn't find any info and was wondering if any of the sifu's have suggestions to help me with lighting...

at the moment I'm limited with one flash without any possibility of any off camera (think that's the term?) flash as no wireless or connector...
Besides bouncing the flash off a wall (say if there is no white wall?), are there any suggestions how to do an indoor photoshoot at night? say for a single model...
thinking of doing one but trying to figure how to get a proper lighting set-up....

any help would be greatly appreciated!... thanks in advance

if you want the light source coming from other angle other than your camera, you actually have to get the light source _off_ your camera.

i want to suggest using reflector but i have no experience using reflector while having my speedlight on the the hot shoe.

edit:
unless you have other light source other than your speedlight such as light from your car, spotlights at the field, and etc.

You have to get the flash off the camera...no choice.

You can do wonders with one flash off camera.

It is not hard to get the flash off camera...

First you unlock the flash from the hotshoe..

Then you take it off the camera...hehe :run_away:

Of course, there's more...get a flash sync cable which connects the hot shoe to the flash.

It allows you to move the flash about, altho connected to a cable. The best part is, there are no misses. Very reliable tool which doesn't cost another flash.

I believe all camera makers have this option. If not, look for China versions which work as well at a cheaper price.

Get an IR or RF flash trigger, a stand and umbrella and with your flash you'll be like a pro. As ST said, you can do wonder with one flash! :)

here is a suggestion..

go on flickr, search for the Group :: One Strobe Pony (http://www.flickr.com/groups/one_strobe_pony/)
Loads of ideas to be found there...

Current I've got only 1 flash (430EX), so trying my best with what I have. Off-shoe of course..

thanks so much for the quick reply guys....
so far the general consensus seems to be that i need to get an off camera flash... guess will have to look into that....
not sure if a reflector will work... especially if a one on one shoot eh?
now i got to go think about how to go about it and check out my options for off camera....

i dun know if u r interested
but i have a canon ETTL cable for sale
i've modified the cable and now you can plug your flash (if its a canon system) on it and move it about 35ft. away from your camera. All this and you could still be using ETTL.

lemme know.

it wasnt somthing complicated, strob, off camera flash and you name it,,

it was shot with the Canon 400D using its built-in flash only...

the place was almost no light-2am down in playground-so im happy with the results ^^

I think i will do wonders with an external flash...but what to do no cash..but still confidant and keeping a high spirit for my portrait photography ;)

here's another try:
