First time to this event.
Nightmare for shooting as stage is raised about 5-6 ft aove the field with ugly plastic-taped piping as a ring. Once event starts crowds are dancing around the stage so views are blocked by moving heads everywhere.
Just to share in the colorful event...love the kimonos, yukatas and cute Japanese children & teenagers. Forget about compositions. Lighting also nightmare as on all 4 corners of the stage you have mixed tungsten and halogen lights shining down on the stage. Flare is everywhere.
A f2.8 600mm VR :fishing: may be the solution as its better to shoot from the grandstand area to avoid the heads or you have a media pass to go onstage...sorry for the oof shots as using handheld a 70-300 f4.5-5.6..:azz:

You could have put them all in one thread..they are all in Event Photography, they are all Bon Odori? Not sure why you'd need 3 threads. You can post up to 5 pics per post, as many posts as you like in one thread.

Despite the horrible lighting, you've still managed to get some fine shots.
What's worse, are some of the media photogs who had access to go up the stage : they just stood right in the middle and on the edges for hours blocking the shots of the public. These in-considerate guys should stay in the corners or move in and out after taking their shots. I got so many shots spoilt by the idiots chimping right in front of the dancers!!!
Love your shots on the kimono clad girls - nice vibrant colours.

Thanks klguy. Agree with you on the media guys on stage. They make it almost impossible to shoot from below the stage. Like you I liked the kimono shots due to the play of colors too.

Nowadays you r sifu liao wor..Sumore the D3 is damn heavy and also ff so no magnification la. I'm waiting to get a lighter cropped body with a 200mm f4 Micro, then I come back to macro....hehehe.In the meantime only macro indoors with tripod...

This event is held every year at Panasonic Stadium Shah Alam (recently donated to Selangor govt) Open to public. First time for me as there was an article abt it recently otherwise would have missed it too. But environment is not really ideal for shooting
Lord Noordin, heard you went to Melaka with some SA ppl, so share your pics la.

Levin~
Like your 2nd Kid shot...
but if you can move slightly left a bit to frame out the "security uniform" personal... it would be better... just my 2 cents...
