It's not f2.8 lense but it's DX+VR. Fuh!.I'm falling in love with this lense. Must be 16-85mm VR, I would say 70-300mm as that's my favourite non f/2.8 lens by far...but it's not DX.

Seeing you were able to zoom in close to your indoor subjects, this lens maybe the Nikon 55-200mm f/4-5.6G IF-ED AF-S DX VR Zoom-Nikkor !

If it is, it is a very inexpensive lens at only RM835.00 new (Shashinki), has extraordinary sharpness for that price and gives similar angles of view to an 85-300mm lens on a 35mm film camera. Recommendation? It works well with D40, D40x and D80, looks odd but works just as well with the higher models. Well, at that price and the great pictures you have been taking, why not !

Cheers.

You can't get f/4 @ 200mm on this lens, the best is at f/5.6.

It is a very good lens for the price. It also won best consumer lens of the year from TIPA i think...

Best part about it is how light it is...

and Starship...what i believe nfirdaus is saying that it's highly recommended.......

Yeah, ur rite! but late a few minutes or second from Jameslow. Thanks for the comment & appreciated the recommendation. I'm falling in love with lense.

I'm serious. The setup just SB800 flash + 2/3 / ISO400/Shutter 1/60/ Apt 5.6/ spot metering. So far I don't see any problem on F4...looks good to me, some more I feel impressived about the result.

Yeah..I concern about the award & recommendation, so that's why I tested by my own way. So cheap ma James, sell off ur 85mm f1.8 AFD and get this :run_away::P

Me just can't believe that this so-called budget lens is so sharp with quite a nice bokeh too.

Very good copy indeed and nice sample pics. :)

Hahahaha beli jgn tak beli. I dah teracun ni. But don't compare with 70-200mm IS USM Or Nikon VR version. That one is Pro level.

This 55-200MM VR really make me "At The Heart of The Image":bouncing:

Nfirdaus...Nice of of your princess... It's a good thing also you cleaned the fan... Not good for your princess...

Mind sharing thoughts...I'm just trying to guess here... The way you achieve the bokeh is by zoom to 200mm, with the biggest f opening (say f/5.6 @ 200mm) get close to the object (main subject) and you heed a distant background.... Correct me if I'm wrong... I'm a newbie in this thing and still learning...

Thanks

quoting the *notes* from shashinki

VR feature will only work with Nikon's D100, D200 & D1 and D2-series, or any newer model camera

will it work on D80 coz i'm casting my eyes on this lens after reading this thread?

thanks

Yeah, VR works with D80.

Are you sure?

Or are you factoring in the low-pass/anti-aliasing filter and in-camera sharpening?

Before you buy why not try the Sigma 70-300mm F/4-5.6 APO DG Macro. I read this is a superb budget lens too. It has longer zoom with 1:2 macro and the better build quality. I'm not sure if Nikon 55-200mm VR can do macro but it has VR which the Sigma doesn't have.
