Nfariz - nice set - looks like you're getting your flash diffuser properly adjusted. Quite nice even light even though I think about half a stop more brighter will be better.
Alamak - you're not only going into OM's territory - you're even venturing into XXX territory. Good catch there. And let's see more exotic bugs or positions...
Liew - good work on your 3:1 shots. Tambah a DCR250 on top of your existing set-up to get 5:1 - then your bugs must kiss your front lens in order for you to focus !!!!

Hmm....Your Highness, your monitor ok or not? nfariz8's images seem properly exposed to me, in fact i find the giraffe weevil images too bright. On top of this, saturation a bit on the high side too.
Liewwk's a bit lack of contrast.

#2 & #3 are a bit over exposed to me.. may be due to levels adjustment? But the even flash on such reflective surfaces are great. I love #4 the most!
I like Liew's .2 & .3... agreed with orionmystery if more contrast would be better.

Ahem - My Lord, my monitor was caliberated with one of those spyder thingies just 2 weeks ago by a pro photog. And double-checked against a contrast/luminence target.
Anyway, just for the sake of arguments, here's the historgram on the original pix - you can see that it's bunched to the left with a area almost blank at the right (circled in red) without much details left.
Pix 2 is an edited version with the histogram pushed to the right and a bit of shadow lightening applied. You can see the difference. The main focus is on the flies and body and personally I don't mind is there is a bit of blow-up on the white parts. Otherwise the bodies are too dark and details lost there.
But of course your taste could be different from mine. :)

Your Highness, nfariz8's last pic could use a little level adjustment, but i am ok with the way it is :D....but the weevils..i'd definitely want to tone it down a little both on brightness and saturation :)
So like you said, different taste lah :D

hmm.. about the lighting.. i wasn't using my ringfusser (left it at home) so i borrowed liew's styrofusser..and i just couldn't get the setting right that whole time.. overblown.. underexpose.. etc.. so i guess thats the best i could get from the super short outing.. thanks for the feedback.. i better check on my software setting or worse still, i better check my eye! looks nicely saturated to me..
