Hi to all,

I had found out that D40 is no longer available in market, and I have to change to D60 since this is the same entry-level camera.

problem is the price is way abit too high if compared to D40~ :(
my budget is abit tight ... but D60 is still within my budget range.

so, questions:-

does D60 worth the price (me beginer in SLR)? or need to get another model/brand? (functionality should be equal or better then D40 ofcourse, user frienly not an issue as i will learn to adapt to that..)

please advice. ;)

thanks in advance.

wait a little bit and then go for D80.

http://a.img-dpreview.com/reviews/NikonD40/Images/lensmount-d40.jpg this is D40, D40X, and d60 mount

http://a.img-dpreview.com/reviews/NikonD40/Images/lensmount-d80.jpgthis is D50, D70, D70s, D100, D200, D300 mount

you can look the difference between D60 and D80 mount. the small mechanism is the part for auto focus, this mechanism don't have for D60 or D40, that mean you need to use AF-S or AF-I lens for auto focus. AF-S and AF-I have built in motor for auto focus.

I think D40 still available in the market coz Nikon also advertised it in their recent promotion.
But not so sure if the promotion still going on.

D60 is few hundreds more than D40.
It shouldn't be an issue choosing between the two.
Most functions & features are almost identical.

And photography doesn't have to be something expensive.
You just need to learn with the limitations of D40/D60.
That's all.
Plus, there are always options from 3rd party lens manufacturers especially Sigma if Nikkor lenses are too expensive.

But remember, you pay peanut, you get monkey.
If you work hard enough, you might also get elephant. :)

ya, this is true.... I will start as beginer. Maybe I will find around penang for new D40. if really no luck then will stick back to D60.

will try to get monkey 1st.

The d40 is no monkey. You can also get a second hand one in the used market. It should really help your budget. See the buy and sell section in ShutterAsia.

There are very good photos which have come out from the little camera.

the monkey is not the D40, btw. sometimes, i think D40 is a sperm whale compared to D3 if it is on the right hand. ;)

thanks karheng for the suggestion.
but i have very vey bad experience with 2nd hand stuffs. so i only aim for new camera, as this is consider an expensive investment for me.

there's not much diff between D60 and D40...i would get a D40x if D40 is no longer in the market....unless D40x is also no longer in the market... then kinda no choice but d60 liao...

only nikon choice? sorry for hijack this but i think u can try some other brand also.
i face this problem like urs b4 this and at last i choose canon 400D as my choice.
The main reason i choose is because the AF-S and AF-i issue as some good and cheap lens cant use on D40/60. ie: 50mm f1.8
other issue like small compact grip, i am ok with it since my hand is small and can add a batt grip for it.

since i am new and almost all user interface i also need time to adopt it, so i try to search more brand and compare between the specs and c/p value.

sorry for all nikonian, doesnt mean to bring any brand issue here :D

D60 is a 'replacement' or sort of upgraded version of D40 & D40X
- is a gr8 camera. So, i reckon u go for it
- forget D40 & D40X

Shud u still considering options, may i poison u with Canon 400D?
- it is the 'nemesis' to the D40X & D60
- plus price may hv drop much since launch of 450D

Save a lil bit more n get at least the D80 or D200 or save even greater to get a 2nd hand D300. Its worth investing on these cause D60 moto in body = elek.... :D
