Ya Hui Potrait~

last 2 week shot with a freaky, karen, leslie at KLCC park.

17 years old Ya Hui is our subject. her first time posting and first time meet us as well. she was so nervous begining but was ok at the end after some talking and cheering.

Fulat,

The first pic gets my vote for good posing and cheeky look but somehow I got this feeling that this picture, you sort of pump up the brightness from an underexpose pic as her hair look kind of wash out but it could be due to her dry hair...

I notice this from your Exif of your photo ISO640, f/9.0 and 1/30s and I was wondering why do you need to pump the ISO up to 640 and shutter speed down to 1/30s during daytime. At 1/30s, there is tendency to soften your pic due to hand shake or mirror slap and at ISO640, the noise could limit your post processing. In my humble opinion, you could use an aperture of f/2.0 - f/4.0 (I assume you are using the 50mm f/1.8) for potraits to get very nice bokeh (if you really like bokeh pics) and at the same time you save the ISO to 200 (for high quality pixel) and maybe get a shutter speed of 1/60-1/80s. This apply for both the other two pics. I'm not too sure about the lighting you took that time as I can only guess. One more thing, there's a sun flare on her hair as well. If you don't like those maybe you should take out the UV filter from your lens...most of the times, is the filter.

It's just my worthless 2 sens......:)

#1 nice look, but if can get the eyes slightly bigger, methinks better. Looks quite yellow, compared with the other 2. Wahahah! First look and I thought, 'La-la mui!' A bit of a burn on her hand.

#3 Methinks may look better in B/W

Like the 'peeking tru door/window shot' - better if can see more of the other eye and cheek. Looks like candid capture of her emotion.

The eyes i.e. fulat's angle, if he were to catch it from a slightly higher position/angle, your eyes won't look so slit-like.

As for the 'La la mui', that's the initial impression. But karen's shot does away with that :D Agree absolutely.

chill, sis - wouldn't hurt to ask for clarification first before going on the defensive, which is pretty 'la-la'! LOL sorry couldn't resist that :D :cool:

Can't comment much on portrait shoots since I don't really shoot people (at least, not with a camera..muahaha).

But I noticed that in fu1at's 1st shot, the focus seemed to have locked on the model's hair...you might wanna be more careful with the Tamron 17-50. It can change focus really quickly....I found that out the hard way when shooting a wedding......

hmm ya hui's hair too dry.. no that suitable for shooting (must do treatment.. haha).. it turned out like a dried grass or hay.. or messy feeling too

some of the pix i noticed were too warm.. i know the challenge of shooting under a sunny day light...

just my two cent la..

Dry hair sometime really will make the messy feeling or spoil the picture.

actually my hair... it's spoilt coz last time in high school i always cut punk hair... it used to be ultra short... now some long some short, all uneven, so end up looks messy... will do something bout it in next shooting sessions... :) thanks for all da opinion. :)
