As promised to Unca Noordin, here's some images taken at the backstage part of the World Drum Fest held in Dataran Merdeka. Yes, there was a part sealed off to the general public where the performers can practice their routines or rest and get some food and refreshments. And no - I was'nt allowed in the changing /make-up tents.
I found a group of South Korean girls there rehearsing their steps. But when I approached them, they simply shook their heads and refused to have their photos taken. I was wondering what's wrong. Then It dawned on me - South Korean culture insist on there being a chaperon present who's responsible for the welfare and discipline of the girls.
I looked around, and there was this chaperon, dressed in a black traditional costume, watching the girls and me with hawk eyes. I approached her, bowed and requested permission to shoot her charges. After showing her the shots in the camera, she smiled. And snapping her fingers, she ordered two of the girls to put on an impromtu performance. Ah heaven indeed.
And yes, I did remembered to thank her before leaving
