I'll be there for an overnight stay and wonder if anyone can advise me on picturesque places to shoot :)
Thank you in advance!
My vote goes to the cave temples, the railway station and city hall. And there is always Kellie's Castle a bit further out from town.

go to old town esp on weekends, undisrupted views of the old shops/relics esp in the evenings. shoot the ipoh tree in DR park, if it's still there. tiger lane's good for potraits esp against the greens.

If you have extra time you can head south to the Simpang Pulai Highway exit and from there you can go up to Cameron Highland via the new Simpang Pulai-Gua Musang highway. If the weather is good you will be rewarded by spectacular mountain sceneries. The road goes up through the Titiwangsa range. I suggest going up there early in the morning, 7.00-8.00am. Be extra careful if it rains.

Think of Ipoh as in like Penang, you have 100 year old shophouses and 60 year Colonial homes still standing strong dating back to the British pre independence era. Take a drive (you can drive slow as in 60km/h or lower) in the city and you also can head to places like Menglembu, a really small town 10 minutes plus away from Ipoh, with loads of cheap places to eat. If you aren't familiar with Ipoh bring a map, or better call Jetfyn :P unofficial Ipoh mari Tourist guide.
If you are lost, dont worry please ask around, Ipoh folks are much friendlier and less stressed up than stuck up KL folks. They will tell you how and where to go. If you can speak Cantonese its even better as its the main dialect there.
Life is still albeit slow and not as progressive or fast paced like Penang or KL but it still has its reputation for being one of Malaysia's richest state. Perak folks prefer it that way, they dislike the KL jams and loud noises in KL. Life is still cheap compared to Kl standards, with Rm2.5-3k+ a mth you can pretty well own your own house, i mean house not some silly small overpriced 1000 sq ft condo in KL /PJ, a regular car and meals every week in the city or suburban areas.

SA did a group outing to Sungai Siput and we side tacked to Ipoh with Chow as our guide. The Old Town is a very interesting place to shoot. Do check it out.
