dudes get it checked, its still under warranty ;)
F-- means the lens is not in contact with the body...try cleaning the contacts..
if it doesn't work send it back for warranty

That's the problem with third party lenses. They are not consistent. Save up more and get first party lenses. It worth every drool. ;)

See whether your model is A16N or A16N-II. The one with the II has built-in motor.
Seems like the problem is only with the type II so far. I just bought the old version w/o motor 2 days ago. Should be getting my D90 tomorrow. Will report back the results soon.. fingers crosssed..

I don't have the package with me now as I'm overseas but my model is XR Di II. Is this the motor version? Bought only last week - made in Japan.

Borrow a D40 or D60 and try it out! :P
Sorry bro, I've not seen the model with built-in motor, so can't tell u the physical difference.
Both are Di II. But if u only bought it last week, and if u bought it in Malaysia, and if u did not specifically ask for the old model, then it is very likely u got the one with the built-in motor.
Went to J-One today.. Jason said D90 stock only coming in on Tuesday :(

Bodyshots does your non-motor unit has a "(IF)" letters on the gold label on the focusing ring?
bodyshots
10-06-2008, 01:29 AM
Yup.. the IF is there. I think it means Internal Focusing mechanism, ie the front of the lens doesn't rotate.

tested about 100+ shots of the Tammy with the D90. So far no problems. Tried video at 50mm also, everything ok.
Btw, mine is the version w/o built-in motor, made in China.

have the same problem, took it back to the shop but the guy told me is the contact point, just give it a quick clean and it should solve the problem. But honestly it still persists and now my warranty is over:(

I am using D90 with the Tamron 17-50 without motor. No problem at all. I think it is a common problem for the motorized version.

Also works well with my d80. If u unplugged the len and fix back. Still the same, better quickly send it to check. Still under warranty. So sad.

i was planning to get one this lens for my D40X, but after all the discussions here, i think i will just hold on for a while. The nikkor 17-55 cost 4k-5k, i don't think i can afford that price either, i guessed i'll just wait for a while and see how's things.
