Hi, Don't personally know about the f4 version, though there's lots of info on the web about it.

I have the EF 70 -210 f 3.5-4.5 which has USM. Sharp, with very nice colours and contrast. Quite compact and light too which makes it good for travel.

I think that 70-210 f4 is an old products for SLR, if you are using DSLR and don't want to spend much money for 70-200 L lens, I will recommend you EF 75-300mm f/4-5.6 III (PP: RM988). I had tried before and the price is arounf / less than RM750, I think the result is good if in this price.

Hi,
I own the EF 70 -210 f 3.5-4.5 USM. Inherited from someone. A predecessor of the modern 70-200. Very old school. Simply:

Focuses very fast
Nice contrast
Sharp enough
Metal base
Focus distance scale
all-time manual focus ring

much2 better then the most of beginners choice of canon lenses such as 55-200, or 90-300.

The thing with my copy right now is the 'zoom creep'. Its an old lens, yep it is.
