hi everyone! can you guys help me?

i won a bid in ebay for a nikon lens (AF-S DX VR Zoom-NIKKOR 55-200mm F/4-5.6G) from this seller nicknamed 'chrisland621'. payment method is by depositing money into his bank account. is this a safe method?

he also has a website selling electronic gadgets...

http://www.gadgets-xpress.com

i've looked at the website...it has a proper and nice layout but the only thing that concerns me is the lack of information (actually none) about their background that we usually find in any online retailers website. they only allow us to contact them through by filling a form in that website.

for now i've requested to make the purchase through COD method. they did mention in a reply to me that they are based in malacca but that's only it. no further contact information being made available to me.

i'm a bit worried to proceed with this transaction since this is my first online purchase and it's quite costly tho. can anyone help me?

if you are in here (the seller), my apology for this thread. i'm being cautious and trying to make this online purchase as safe as possible.

Technically, this should go to the Chit Chat section...since you're not buying/selling anything in this forum. I'll move it.

I'd be cautious too if i were you :)

It's fine here, it's in general Buy/Sell which is for these kinds of questions and queries etc.

If you are not confident in this seller, why you want to bid at the first place?:?

Normally, people buy from internet would have prefered to check the item thru COD.

Since you have won the bid, you should honour it, or else don't even thinking of starting it. Buying from authorised dealer is much better with genuine warranty.

Is all up to you now. My understanding is, if you are not going to honour it, you will be blacklisted by the web hoster.

But is better to be blacklist than loosing money right? Hope you can make up your mind then.

You don't win a bit and then have cold feet. You'll get a black mark in eBay and it will be difficult for you next time.

There are sellers who insist on bank draft, maybe that's the best way to pay for you. At least you have it on record.

Ya, you'll be blacklisted by ebay if you don't honor the deal. Check on the feedback given by all the previous buyers....you should get a pretty good idea from there!

yeah...that's the thing. i would not want to do anything that dishonour the contract.

i admit that i was naive at the 1st place when placing the bid when i saw the offered price. i was careless not to do extra research about the paying method offered and rely only on his previous customer's feedback which is 100% track record. but i did bid only once and never expected that it'll be the only and the winning bid.

it is only when it came to do the checking out process that i realize about the options that i have. and after consulting with a few friends who have previously made transactions in ebay, they said that i'm putting myself in fraud situation.

Yah you really shouldn't bit unless you've checked up first and made sure you have confidence in the seller.

Because once you've won the bid you are legally bound to pay for the goods at that price.

Never buy from a seller with little or no feedback.

Does this user have good feedback? I mean I can check myself quickly, it seems pretty ok 13 feedback with 100% positive rating.

Haha...i did the same too out of curiosity. Not as many feedbacks as I'd like to see..but still, it adds to the confidence

that's why i did the bidding at the 1st place because it seems genuine but finally when it involves money changing hands, one after another questions popping out making that confidence slowly change to anxiety.

If you still feel uncomfortable, then, dishonoured the bid, and regiter a new nickname..Safe, what? It can save your money from the con (if he is..)!

Buy from here la, easy, buy COD only..:jaw:

matter solved...

the seller emailed me last night saying that he did a mistake by listing the wrong lens for the offered price. that's got me did the bidding at the 1st place because the offered price was much more lesser than the market price that i have surveyed.

here's part of the email:

"This was on the listing Nikon Lens AF-S DX VR Zoom-NIKKOR 55-200mm F/4-5.6G, but i was accidentally copy the wrong info.
Actually the price is for this lens: Nikon Lens AF-S DX Zoom-NIKKOR 55-200mm F/4-5.6G ED.
It look very similar...
Sorry, i was confuse and missed look on the differences. A thousand apologies to you. Hope you undestand.
So, either we cancel this transaction or i offer you a special rate for the lens you want-RM 820?"

so i have decided to cancel the transaction. lucky me!

I agreed with orionmytery, make them honour the deal since this was their mistake. Vice versa, can I bid and later tell it is a mistake?

Anyway, since you have decided, just treat it as a good experience.

Cheer.....;)
