I was using my son's Dell with LCD monitor recently and found that when pics are rotated 90 deg to portrait orientation, the image looks distorted - squeezed horizontally & stretched vertically.

I've tried looking for the controls on the monitor to correct the aspect ratio but couldn't find it. Changing screen resolutions also doesn't help.

Reported this to Dell cust service & even sent them this pic but no solution yet. I measured the image with a ruler on the monitor & got rectangular results. On my CRT, I get square results.

I'd also like to upgrade to an LCD but fear this problem. For those who see it as a square in both orientations, can you please let me know the make & model of your lcd? Thanks

Try changing the resolution to 1280 X 1024. In 1024 X 768, it measures 13cm x 13.5 cm on my 17" Samsung 172X monitor. :D

What size LCD does your son have, and what resolution have you set it to?

Thanks guys. Think it's a 17" (measured it diagonally last night). Will go home & try again later.

Thanks for the feedback. Glad to know I ain't alone. Fortunately, it measures well after changing to Siew's recommended resolution.

Uhhh, you guys right-clicked and saved the square onto your hdd & opened it up from there, right? ie in Windows picture viewer with the rotate clockwise/anticlockwise buttons yeah? Or in photoshop ... also can rotate.

So which non-Dell models are good?

Looks square on my 20" Viewsonic lcd @ 1680x1050. You should always use the default reso of your lcd monitor.

I am considering the Dell 24" 2407WFP and Samsung 226BW and leaning on the 24" coz it can support up to 1920 X 1200/S-Video/CF/USB slots/portrait and landscape. The 22"s are a good buy at the moment though :(.
