Hello Shutter Asia :)
I've always checked this forum or came acroos it when I google about somthin and I find it very useful..
but I always wonder about "keeping photography alive" ..
photography is part of this life..won't die and it grows bigger all the time, well i dont need to talk about how much photography is alive and healthy in various acpects; commercial advertising ,military,education,Scince,Medicine..and many more !
so..do we really need to keep it ALIVE while a 3 years old kid holding a cameraphone and taking a picture in the street ?

I actually don't understand this part.
I mean a 3 years old kid can't enjoy photography?

What he meant is, why "keeping photography alive" when it seems like photography isn't dying at all.

How alive is alive? And how do you measure it? Who has the answer? All we can do is to promote it best that we can, and enjoy ourselves while doing it. PERIOD.
Healthy debate is fine, but don't let this get into a pointless arguement. :)
Peace!

Luckily I asked first before giving any comments. Thanks lordmint for making it crystal clear. :)
I guess "Keeping Photography Alive" doesn't mean that photography is dying. Photography is very much alive. We can see cameras in various format every where we go. This is a very healthy scenario.
The main question is, how do we keep photography alive?
There are many various way to do it.
One of it through online community forum like Shutter Asia.
I guess the best way to explain things is by giving example.
About a year ago, there is no such things as Penangkia™.
There is no such things as Tak Nak Chimping™.
But through Shutter Asia, a bunch of crazy people met-up and formed Penangkia™.
This Penangkia™ went for photowalks almost every weekend.
Organized photography related events once in a while.
Explored new form of photography now & then.
Gather new people to join the world of photography.
Helped each other in photography and sometimes personal life.
I'm pretty sure you can call it "Keeping Photography Alive". :)
Over the years, I've seen people who joined Shutter Asia, people who are totally clueless about photography, picked up their knowledge from here and of course from other forums and online resources as well.
Some were still here, giving back their knowledge to those who need it.
Some become cocky when their photos were featured in local magazines or win some competitions, and never bother to help those who need it.
This is a normal scenario in online community forum.
People do come and go and no one can stop them.
We can only provide you the platform.
It is all depends on you to keep photography alive.

I think it's more of sharing knowledge to keep spawning more photographers and in a sense keeping it alive. That's the purpose of most forums.. sharing knowledge... no?
If no one shares, no one learns... then we have a dead hobby....

"Keeping photography alive" means "continuing the tradition". Remember that photography has evolved from range finder & film to SLR and film and now to digital SLR. Digital photography has miniaturised itself into compacts and handphone etc.
SA is continuing that tradition to the next phase, whatever that photography may be. It does not mean that it's going to die and SA is resuscitating it.
I think that's what the founder meant it to be!

when he said "alive", it's an adjective.... "die" would be total opposite of "live"...
alive as to add on emotion, feelings, knowledge, into the art of photography, taking a photo is not making it alive. BUT sharing it with friends, noting of the good / bad in that photo, learning through mistakes is making it alive.
To me personally, SA's slogan of "keeping photography alive" means that all members come here, start posting and learing.... making new friends (argue sometime, but hey that's fun too).... that's ALIVE...
just my personal opinion. Please don't shoot me.
