There has always been endless debates on whether one needs to PP or not to PP their photos. To me PP is a method to make the picture look the way you want it to be which could not have been captured at the point of taking the shot.

It is also a means to bring out the more artistic side of a photographer and "personalize" your photos. Below are 2 photos, 1 original while the other has been PP (photo courtesy of Ng Joo Hiang).

So where do you stand on PP?

I was never a fan to selective coloring.
If want to choose between the given photos, I would choose original one.
The second one have a good concept but went overboard with the processing.

Digital post-processing is important. It will help to deliver your intended messsage even more. But purist might find it other wise.

based on artistic wise i choose edited version, but based on normal photo i choose ori one either one will work for me.

i will go for the original pics.. it tells more with it.
But PP has it advantage when you want to stamp a statement and also remove some of the "distracting" component.

PP it to make your pics 'stand out', and to retain the composition if possible, i am not a fan of cropping unless the photo is really 'out' :D:D

it depends on how u define the words Photoshop.

If is just normal level, curve adjustment and a lil boost in saturation and constrast
but maintain the originality of the picture, it is still consider photoshoped.
for me i consider it a light photo shop/ or photo editing

whereby in nivek case, the picture shown above, i consider it Major editing..
but it is still considered as photoshop..
that is to bring out the feel ..or to give the viewer other opinion of the pic shown.

Come to the end, it depends on how you define the words PP and how you look at the picture. Certain picture may look nice after heavy edit, but it may look even nicer if is just light/minor edit

i always want my pic to look original, PP is just for me to enhance a bit of the color and contrast.

For ur sample, i'll prefer the original one, and i agree with fleaman, it tell more story and i can feel the environment

I will go for something in between, between these two pictures.

I like the pp-ed colours, but not the burnt background.

i agree to JackJack, i prefer my pic look original, that is call photo, after adding in some "ingredients=PP work" it will call image rather than photo
*my own philosophy for photography world :)

i will pick the original one :D

You know what, once there is a "pro" told me photography is not about metering in your camera, it's about using photoshop to PP till kao kao.

I was shot and certified dead on the spot when I said I don't PP my photo except changing the exposure :(

For me .. nothing wrong with PP-ing ... say you're on a "once-in-a-life-time" trip ... and you ter-took a underexposed photo ... so u gonna keep that as ur memory ? Why cannot PP ?

After all... it's YOUR camera .. YOUR photo .. YOUR pp work ... everything yours .. i find it funny when people post photos and go "all this straight out from camera ... no PP" ... i dunno they are trying to prove their originality or prove how bad they are in controlling the camera ..

( no offence to anyone .. juz general comments here )

I personally like HDR .. it's a TYPE of photography .. if you say no PP then i guess HDR is not "original" ? For those who thinks "wah like that future PP pro enuff lor .. where need photography pro" .. i wanna say if ur compo is really crap ... no pp can help .. if ur photo is OOF .. also cannot help ... u pan wrongly.. also cannot help ...

All in all .. i dun find any problem with PP at all ... it's MY WORK after all ..

Love original picture but I appreciate it even more if it is PP-ed to correct mistakes and further enhancement done as it is a hard work from a photog to show that they are serious about their picture to portray their take on special something that they are taking.

A picture taken without PP is perfect, but after PP it will be more perfect

I think HDR can't be labeled as PP, no?
