This is 1 of my very first few B&W conversions done recently. Appreciate the sifus to share your comments especially on things to take note of a B&W conversion other than subject and composition, what makes a good B&W picture?

Does this one works?

Due to his cowboy look and reminds me of those Marlboro advertisement in the 70/80s.

I sort of get the title...but there's no horse though :D

OK back to the image. I think it's a bit under. Need to push the exposure a little...and burn the bright part at the bottom if you intend to keep the same crop.

I think he was heading to his horse.....
Thanks for the comment and noted. Is B&W picture always higher in contrast as compare to color ones?

Er..what do u mean? The amount of contrast is up to your own taste lah...as long as it's within the tolerable limit, then it's oky. My 2 sen :)

I PP'ed it a bit..

Haha, I usually do the other way round. Dodge the highlights but burn the shadows.

Of course it depends on what you want to achieve. Mine is for stronger contrast.

Yeah, OM's edited one looks better.

Your conversion is good. The tones are very nice.

The only thing that I would nit pick is the background around his head is the same colour as his head/hat so the head 'melts' into the background. Compare this to the body and legs where the lighter background makes that part very prominent and nice. Dodging the area behind the head will help to isolate the head from the background.

Nice shot... but as what OM said, its lacking of highlight. Pushing its gamma might help... as there are too much of midtones... :)

sorry, for me a title for a picture is very important. This picture have nothing to do with Marlboro, i call it misleading title.

And for the pic, it's a bit under on the face, hmm

Exactly! The hat was not even a cowboy hat.

Anyway, about the photo, more contrast will help to give better depth in B&W. orionmystery has pointed you to a right path.

i recalled Marlboro Man advertisement years back with the ever famous tune by Rodgers and Hammerstein's Magnificent Seven.

Marlboro took the tune and made a global icon for themselves and created the brand icon Marlboro with the cowboy on a horse overlooking the Grand Canyon in US.
