I Think the best for the range is SIGMA 70-300 APO DG Macro. The image Q is almost L. Bit slow to focus in Low Light, but that could be so with all slow Teles.
You should be able to get it for RM 750-800 New. May hunt for a bargain on one of these forums/FTZ or else where.

Got to be careful you dont paint yourself into a corner as many thirdparty lenses (Tamron, Sigma) are equal to EF-S series and not usable on full frame camera (ie 5D, 1D, 1D Mark II and III). I've recently looke into getting the Tamron 18 - 250 but stop at the register when I found out that it only works with non full frame body. My 2 cents.

Sigma create go focusing.. N the price quite ok. Its depend on u what u want. Bring ur camera along to the shop n try to take a shot with one of those lens. Then u know which 1 u need... N the 'sick ma' mean- u will get sick if u dont get 1 of it after u try. Coz it is a good lens.. hehehehe... Njoy:drunk shoting..:drunk:

When you go FF, you will go for the L lenses with F2.8 IS.:D

Sigma 70-300mm vs Tamron 70-300. Both F3.5-5.6 Macro.

Which one would be better ? How about price wise >?

Na! Both are f/4-5.6, not 3.5-5.6.
Sigma APO DG is optically the best in it's class, better thatn CANON 75-300 and much better than Tamron. It might be a bit slow in Focus in low light, but if you have pre-focussed near to subject, then no problems.
I sold one only because got the EF 70-300 IS. You can get the SIGMA one for RM 750-800 new.

I was quoted Rm650 for Sigma yesterday (Not sure APO or not) and Tamron was at Rm750.

My friend got from another dealer, Tamron only Rm580 ? :0

My plan is to go FF and also if you look at the advance in technology FF is inevitable. I just dont like the fact that there are two sets of lens format (ie EF and EF-S). Hint Hint, Nikon does not yet have a FF model. Word is there is a mojor announcement at end of June from Nikon :0

sorry OT abit.
i was previously also looking for a tele under 1k.
and was really into the sigma 70-300mm (fuyoh! with macro somore :D)

then i realized i dont up to 300mm on a APS-C (*1.6 crop factor) and the quality is not that good lo but i mean its cheap so i can't complain.

then someone recommended why not get something under 200mm with good optics. and i thought since i am not birding :P and i travel alot, i might as well get a good lens with slightly better reach than my kit lens.

so just few weeks back i got a second hand tamron 28-75 f/2.8 macro lens for rm 1050. ok, its not under 1k, but then its still 1k + :D
optics is great, its very sharp, its constant f/2.8, and its a great travel lens for my needs.

just something for you to think about.:drunk:

mmmm.... im newbie...sorry to ask this stupid Q...

canon lenses really s*ckd?

let me answer that question.

YES!!!!

unless its the 50mm f/1.8 and L lens.
all cheaper lens dont really perform great.
most ppl prefer sigma or tamron version, again unless its a L lens.

i didnt say all the Canon lenses are s****

what i meant was that earlier mentioned lens only, as i used to have it.
so far the rest of all my Canon lenses perform as i expected.

edit: the other s**** canon lens is EF-S 18-55 (kit lens), i guess everyone knows that.

agree with moshpit21...
for me, i think the USM focusing on 75-300 is good n fast compare to others.
its better that you put more effort on learning how to shoot good photos using such range.
Dont bother what ppl saying la...

I think that's a rather sweeping statement, there are some non L lenses that are actually pretty good, one that immediately come to my mind would be the 24mm 2.8 prime. Just my 2 sen. :)

hmm... not sure if it satisfy me yet, cause I just bought the cam not more than a week, no real time to try it out yet also. But I guess you are right, as long as I'm satisfied with the quality then it's alright.

Go for SIGMA APO ver. Slight more RM than Tami, but pic quality far superior. ...and the zoom ring does not turn the other way round like Tami.

Sigma 70-300mm APO is about RM720-750. Tamron 70-300mm Di is about Rm580-650.

Sigma Macro start from 200-300mm. Tamron start from 180-300mm

Any telephoto zoom below RM1K is gonna be very slow. You'll feel frustrated. The moment the light dims a bit, you'll have to bump up your ISO, yet your images are going to be underexposed. In a short while you're going to trade-in because the lens is not satisfactory. So you'll lose a couple of 100s on it. Why not get a used zoom that's reasonably fast. That way you'll keep it longer and when it's time sell you will not lose much.

oh, is the macro any good? I thought dedicated lenses were better?
