The mangroves in Langkawi are actually a fantastic place to go for a photography trip. Excellent choice! :)
I like your shots about the transports (the high shot of the boats at the jetty) - looks like it was taken at some exotic, remote village in China. Shame about the grey skies, though.
Did you guys head to the eagle-feeding place further down the river?
I went to the same mangrove earlier this year with a compact digicam and took some pics.

Well... it's towards the north of Langkawi, I think...
I haven't got any contacts at the moment, but you could try any travel agent that deals with Langkawi - ask about the Mangrove / Eagle-feeding tours. You'll have to call at least one day before the trip - I believe you can get contacts from the airport.
Once you've made a booking, they'll normally send a van to your hotel/resort to pick you up in the morning. The whole tour would normally last the entire morning, stretching just past lunch time (there are a couple of restaurants to dine during the tour).
It starts with a boat ride along the island's mangroves (rivers with partial salt water), takes you to some caves, then to a "fishing village" and then out into the open sea before returning to the mangroves.
