saw that they have tickets for sale, why would tickets be needed? is it for a special viewing area?

would be good if anyone has scouted the place for the best place for us to set up "camp"

one place i've found is the jogging area by the lake at Cyberjaya (just after the Cyberview Lodge), it overlooks the lake and the bridges and people might not crowd up so much here since its not in Putrajaya :D

Hi Admin,

Sorry for the double thread for this topic that has posted by me this morning.

Btw, the ticket price for the event is listed at this site https://shop.ticketpro.com.my/searchres.asp, seem expensive RM38.50 without dinner & drinks and RM148.50 with dinner & drinks at PICC. Don't know whether the organiser allow people to watch it from the public area.

xman

i'm having a guess at this one but i think when you buy tickets, you get to sit at a specialised area where they have large speakers. so normally each team will have accompanying music with their fireworks show to make it livelier

so if u dont mind watching the fireworks without the music, you can setup anywhere nearby or surrounding the shooting grounds and watch for free :D

i'm still going for the Cyberjaya lakeside jogging path - overlooks the lake, PICC and 2 bridges

It's still some time away. Why not do a list and if some kind soul has recced the place why not goggle a map so we can all gather there. :D

hi guys,

any tips and tutorial for shooting fireworks?

Ronan
07-05-2007, 01:18 PM
set to A (auto/aperture priority) or P (programmed) mode and remember to set the NR (noise reduction) on for long exposure shooting.

ShaolinTiger
07-05-2007, 02:06 PM
Don't set to A mode, the camera will overexpose the fireworks because it will meter for the background.

Best is to use bulb mode for long exposure and use black card to blackout your lens between explosions.

I suggest we go and reccy there before hand.

Like mentioned the tickets will be nice seats below the fireworks, not necessarily the best place for taking photographs.

It's better for us if we are further away and can compose including all the scenery.

xman sounds like he has a good spot.

guys

hope you can make out the location of the jogging paths that i mentioned from the image below

http://www.studioeightphotos.com/MIFC.jpg

Photographing Fireworks (found this on the MIFC website!)

1. Don't use a flash, which will only highlight the immediate area. If you can't disable the flash in your camera, cover it with tape.

2 Use a tripod if possible, or find some way to steady your camera. A bean-bag or sandbag works well.

3 ISO 50 or ISO 100 for SLR cameras and ISO 400 for aim-and-shoot cameras.

4 Set the focus to infinity (aim-and-shoot cameras have trouble with this - some will focus at infinity if you cover the focus sensor with a piece of tape).

5 Include something at the bottom of the frame, such as barge or beach or crowd, to establish scale and location.

6 Experiment with leaving the shutter open from five to 20 seconds. Set manual aperture control from f5.6 to f11, since higher f-stops may not admit enough light. Aim-and-shoot cameras generally don't offer this option

NO. When they say media, they mean mainstream media, meaning newspapers, radio, mags etc. It works a bit different here than in the US.

Just reached home and haven't process the photo yet. There are plenty of traffic accident right after the fireworks and also bumper to bumper jam along the way leaving Putrajaya. Is better to take the shutter bus service in Putrajaya Bus station which is provided by the organiser for free ride.

ya traffic is a mess when u wanna leave that place after the fireworks... specially at the toll.

will post up some location for u guys a good spot later. the view is good on PICC ground floor. but it's too near the fireworks location. i think a 10 or 12mm FF can do the job nice and steady.

missed the fireworks alltogether... except getting to see some final shots from like god-knows-how-far-away. so my shots are really not worthy.

Dear Norm,

Care to elaborate how to use Black Card?

I really wanted to capture shots like yours, but always turn to out to be dustbin pix. :(

I used a normal thick card (black, for better light 'absorption'..:P)
and hold in front of the lens.
I set my shutter to 'bulb mode' & using a wired remote shutter release
(MC-DC1 for my D70s)... I tripped the shutter open.
When there's a good firework to capture, I just remove the card from the lens
and close the lens again while waiting for the next shot. If uninteresting
firework, I just leave the lens closed... maybe get 3 or 4 fireworks shots and
then shut the shutter. Sometimes ok... sometimes not so ok, especially
if the fireworks exploded at the same spot... thus overexposure at the area,
with multiple fireworks shots.

A lot of try & error.... but since there'll be several display nights...
can do tests a lot.
