On day 2 we bought ourselves a MRT day-pass (NTD150...RM15 equivalent) which allowed us unlimited use of the MRT for the whole day. We left after breakfast and our 1st stop was the National Palace museum where the number of relics and exhibits were mind-boggling (about 700,000!). We spent 4 hrs there! Unfortunately no photography was allowed since June 2005 hence I'll skip that.
We took the MRT to the north end of Taiwan to a smallish town called Danshuei which only took about 15 min from where we were. The streets were narrow and lined with very colourful signboards that reminded me of Hong Kong minus the crowd. There were many hawkers along one of the streets where we had our lunch. Strange, simple food but they were delicious. We sat around the stall and this small boy was wondering what this guy was snapping away. What else...:D

After a good lunch with our energy was restored we went to the beach right next to the MRT station. It was still very hot so we did not venture too far. There was a huge weekend crowd with families bringing their pets with some having a picnic. Even the elderly and the handicapped had a field day. I must add that the MRT in Taiwan is very handicap-friendly.
I saw this guy who is a master craftsman on figurine-making out of straws. They were so well done that I bought 2 from him.

We noticed beautiful music coming from this blind musician. He was good which prompted us to get a CD from him.

We left the place at about 6pm and on our way back dropped by at the biggest night market in Shihlin. We were already so tired and hence did not spend to long there though it was an interesting place. There were so many food stalls many of which were selling the same food esp fried oysters. There was a strange smell in the air which I later found out was due to the famous "rotten" tauhu.
#8 Prawn fishing where one pays and get to eat what he/she managed to capture with a line and hook. See the oven in the centre? That's where they cook the prawns.
