i've been dreaming to go to Australia.
plan to go end of this but not sure about it yet.

anyway, about your shot.
2 main things that i want to stress on here (unable to see your EXIF, no plug-ins)
1) exposure - most of your shots were a bit underexposed. what u can do is either boost up your ISO, lower your shutter speed or slow shutter speed (long exposure).
2) blur - your shots were slighty blur which i think due to slow shutter speed.

you might want to consider using a tripod when taking night shot. it help to increase stability to your camera so that u can make long exposure shots.

i hope these can help u a bit, mate. don't worry, keep on trying. :)
thanks for sharing btw.

Hey and welcome to SA :)

Nice shots generally, just a few pointers..

#1 & #2 are very similar, on the whole I prefer #2 as I find it more balanced.

It doesn't look very clear though, this may be due to high ISO which causes loss of detail, or slight movement of camera during long exposure.

Seen as though you are using a tripod you can try putting the ISO down to 100 or 200 rather than 400/800/1600 and perhaps use aperture of around f/8-11 rather than f/13-f/22.

The third shot is a bit underexposed and not surprising seen as though you are using f/32 and ISO 1600.

Should be more like f/11 and ISO 200 at 20-30 seconds exposure.

#4 is clearer with ISO200.

The noise is quite bad in #5 and #6 due to ISO1600 and ISO400.

#7 is a rather cool effect.

#8 is nice and sharp, would be better at ISO200.

All in all a good try, get out there again and keep shooting!

hey thanks for replying !! Erm i'm sorta in a rush now .. ill try to post the EXIF later hehe ....
1) Yeah i noticed the underexposure ... is this an effect of Nikon D40 tho ? I've tried even with ISO1600 .. and it still looks this dark .. my shutter speed are all around 8 to 10 secs already =.=" .. i use the tripod with 10secs timer of course ... there shouldn't be any shake .... try downloading and zoom in .. maybe the resolutions in the forum made it looks blur or something haha ..

Hey Shaolin ... it's you again :) I guess u're the master here hehe .. yea #1 and #2 is about the same except for that boat moving in pic 1 haha ..

My ISO is probably maximum at 400 =/ coz i used tripod and i tried to set it as low as possible ... i'll check the EXIF file asap. ...

My Nikon D40 has a minimum of ISO 200 ... and i was using S priority ... maybe i should try manual next time to "over-expose" my picture a little =.="

Oh wow .. 20 to 30 seconds exposure ?? :0 Never thought it would work !! Thnx for the tips ;) i'll try it the next time ...

Thanks again for the ever constructive critics everyone ;)

Me...no master haha.

For this kind of shot, just set lowest ISO at 200, set aperture priority to f/11 and make sure the camera is set to matrix metering.

Then use self-timer and tripod and shoot away! Exposure should come out 20-30 seconds.

When you resize for the forum, resize to 800px at the longest size and save with high quality (80% or 10) so we can see maximum detail.

Yo bro ... why use self-timer? is it to prevent shaking/blurring?

yes :) .. coz without timer .. when u hit the shutter button .. u'll jerk the camera a little which constitute to the shake .. not good :)

Yah that's correct.

The best solution is to use a cable-release, which means you don't have to wait for the timer and you can use bulb-mode.

But the cheapest way is just to use self-timer.
