Hello...
I just got a new Tamron 90mm/2.8 Di lens. Took it home, mount it on my D70 but the aperture won't go to 2.8? The widest is 4.
Can anyone tell me how to make it open up till 2.8? Is there anything that I can set?
Thanks.

2.8 only at long focus, macro should b around 5.6 to 6 i think...cos for macro, f2.8 u wont get any details but just a dot of sharp area...

if that's the case, shouldn't advertise as a 2.8 lens ya? so misleading

not misleading at all... the fact is the lens can go widest at f2.8 mah
it is very normal for tamron lens.. btw, when u shoot macro.. u do not need 2.8 la.. to get a sharp macro pix.. i think u need f8 and above..
anyone want a 2.8 macro lens.. should buy the sigma

Read the instruction manual, F2.8 only will be available when u take pictures without having the barrel extended out. Macro mode will auto jack up the F figure to F3 and above. So far, its still ok cause it helps you to safe ur shots just incase u are using F2.8 for macro :D
When using macro, you'll need apertures of f/8 and smaller ... otherwise you lose out on the details. f/2.8 is available only when it's at infinity, really.

You can't shoot macro at f/2.8 anyway as soon as the barrel extends the aperture drops.
And yeah at 1:1 you need to be using f/11-16 anyway to get a decent DoF.
Even up to f/20.
The f/2.8 is useful if you use it for portraiture though.

Yes I believe all macro lenses behave like this.
These were shot with Tamron 90mm f/2.8 at a catwalk type thing at f/2.8 or f/3.

Its costume fair... for Nihongo manga characters. YES u will see these lil cute gals running around with their anime character look alike. :)
ST: A noob questions to ask. If we shoot at 2.8, it wont causes the picture to be soft? If I were to use my 18-200 on this kind of outing with SB800 along, will it be any better than the setup of SP90 with flash?

Not really this lens is fairly sharp at f/2.8 because it's a macro lens.
At f/4 and above you will have to soften the pictures as it's too sharp for a portrait lens.
Plus I prefer not to blast things with flash if possible, available light is best :)
