Some people collect, especially those carved name chops - the lions remind me of them :D

Err, Q, setting try different types, different backgrounds, and also different positions for the figurines. Try out the many different possibilities.

It's nice like that, but boring a bit lor - my 2 kupang, sorry

qqmeng, try this. instead of ceiling down light (or bouncing off the ceiling), try a direction from the side

Also for light coloured objects like these, you need a darker background cloth to make the details stand out.

Do close-ups of individual piece and with say a black cloth for background. That will allow the details of each piece to be appreciated. Putting them together water down the impact. My 2-cents. :p

This one is great.

You can learn a lot about lighting if you concentrate on toy photography for a while. Why? "Cos it doesn't move and is small enough to use cheap table lamps for illumination.

Me concur with Sifu Max's tip.
Errr, the crystal/quartz ball, if close up, lower angle of appraoch might look nicer .... but that's me :D

yep master max. at 1st i was thinking of doing macro still life, but surprise i fell in love with lighting (thanks to the cheap table lamps)... but they are still very far away from being able to master it. i must practice harder.

hehehe I started a children's toys thread over in you know where but nobody saw the value of such a frivolous subject ... seriously it's good therapy & highly educational :)
