Guys,
I've never used any studio lights before but is interested to get a set. A noob question, is there a need for a flash meter in a setup where the light is from ambient and/or studio lights?
:)

Some people like to use one, but in the age of digital it's not strictly necessary.
Just take shot, check histrogram and output, adjust, etc.
Just takes a few minutes.

IC. Will using the flashmeter give a consistent result, no over or under expose?

No it's just a meter, it doesn't control the lights or settings.

There is button for you to press press on your lights/strobes, trigger it and measure the light reading using your light meter. Set your ISO, shutter speed and aperture according to the light meter reading.
Sounds easy right? Try it, then you will understand more.

I suggest you attend one of Ted Adnan's CLS workshop. You'll be able to learn use of lightings whether it's using multiple flash, studio flash etc. You'll also know from the workshop whether a flashmeter is necessary or not.
