50,000 should be around average for D70s.
does the memory card effect the shutter count of opanda?
someone told me this card A been used in camera A, then after that use in camera B, opanda's counting might goes wrong. Anyway, correct me if i'm wrong. I was heard about it.

oh really ? can some1 confirm this ? At the start i format my memory card .. so wouldn't my count be 0 even if my camera was used before ? Or opanda can somehow read from the camera itself ?

i think the shutter count info is encrypted in the jpeg files; so its independant of memory cards used. Only file namings should be influenced when u delete pictures in ur camera... not too sure though

Changing cards formatting etc does NOT effect shutter count, it's stored in the camera and encoded in the EXIF of the images.
This is only for Nikon cameras, Canon don't supply this info and only their service centers can tell the shutter count.

Thought I can check the shutter count when I review the picture I shot. I was wrong :D
Anyway, it's "adventurous" to find this out :P

Hi mdan and welcome to Shutter Asia :), just to let you know Canon cameras DO NOT show the shutter count in the EXIF information, so I'm not sure what number you are looking at.
But I can assure you, it's not the shutter count.

Some can go longer 70-100,00.
Depends on luck I guess.
Should be around RM300-400 I think, depends on model, some are 500-600.

You won't be able to take pictures anyway more, you'll get get black frames and there will be no more click or swoosh sound from the shutter.

How to check the shutter Count?
Here's some link for you to check :-
( FOR NIKON USER )
http://scent.org/cgi-bin/exif.cgi
insert latest photo taken and GO, wait a moment n you'll get to see all ur data
( FOR OLYMPUS E-500 USER )
Turn camera on
Open card door.
Press Play(green arrow on e1) and ok together
Press up down left and right
Press shutter button
Press up
press right.
R = shutter releases (it shows the number of shutter releases the camera had so far)
( FOR CANON USER )
the shutter actuation count for the Canon EOS series is not included in any output file. It can presumably be read from the camera somehow by a facility only had by authorized Canon service centers.
hope this helps.

Hi Lights,
Thanks for the cgi links, but the information provided is too extensive.
Where exactly can I find the shutter count? I did a search on count but nothing came out. :?
how do you know when the time is up for changing shutter??:run_away:
I think your shutter speed is no longer accurate by that time. Just like manual cameras, it's due to faulty shutter mechanism (wear and tear).

I think I have got around my problem. Have to use the original RAW file, instead of edited jpeg, even though original EXIF data is still preserved.
Furthermore, different files may generate different output. Mine, shutter count is at no. 138.
Weird, although I though I have frequently used my camera, it's shutter count is less than 40K. :?

hehehe 1 year 40K is darned a lot.....it's similar to shooting 80 events with each event amounting to 500 shots....

Thanks guys.
Very helpful link!
mine is at 3K after 3months so pretty happy with the progress :)
Hence 50,000 after 50months which means by 2010 i can aim for the D400 :P
I found a site which users of related cameras put up their shutter life...
You can get the average shutters for your camera models...
Average counts for D70s (http://olegkikin.com/shutterlife/nikon_d70s.htm)
But funny is somebody put up his count for 1DsMkIII...:?
1DsMkIII counts (http://olegkikin.com/shutterlife/canon_eos1dsmkiii.htm)
So ... believe the stats with pinch of salts...
However, looking at the stat for D70s & my 2yrs++ D70s with 48k++ SC...
I feel a bit better...:P

Wow my thread is alive lol .... 2 thumbs up for using the search button mate :) You deserve all the help u need haha ...
D60 is rather new so i guess no1 knows the "limit" of it ... and there isn't a definite limit either .. some camera last more than 100k ... some 30k die oredi ... but you can have a rough idea from this site
http://www.olegkikin.com/shutterlife/nikon_d60.htm
but as u can see it's not really reliable .. some idiot posted that it died after 1 shutter count so yea ... dun take it too seriously .. just a rough guide ..
When it's over the limit .. you just need to replace the shutter ... i THINK it's roughly RM 200-300 ... you'll need to confirm it with other forummers or with NIKON MSIA or any other shops like J-ONE / YL
Hope that was useful :)
