Is this type of triggers not recommended? I read somewhere that they will only last 'x' number of shots/triggers? anyone any experience using them?
:)

There's no finite limit, but under normal use don't expect them to last more than a year or so.
If you don't have budget for Pocket Wizards they are ok.

unoficially, i heard the Pocket Wizards cost 1500+ a pair (correct me if i'm wrong).
Loctormayat, do you use a flash meter to measure exposure setting or you just refer to your histogram?

btw, this radio trigger is real handy.
the IR transmission is not 100% dependable.
i always got non-fire when i did CLS.
might get one of these thingy one of these days.
btw, i was wondering, is there any head for flash that can be mounted on normal tripod? :?

If you're using SB-800 or SB-600 they come with a small 'foot' that you attach to the hotshoe, if you look on the bottom of the 'foot' it has tripod threads.

how much is PW by d way...Pocket Wizards would start at around RM700. You want more receivers, more $$$. The China ones, a pair of transmitter and receiver can be RM100 or less. They become less reliable (ie, won't flash when you want) later on and are flimsy... trip over your light stand and don't be surprised it breaks off. ;)

chinks,
if you are using canon EX speedlights, these random triggering is common.
there is a method of solving this problem by shielding the radio waves from hitting the reciever electronic parts. this will solve the problem.
my unit has been working nicely ever since. :)

there's a newer version of this flash trigger with the word PT-04 but with an added "TM" word on the receiver. the transmitter looks the same as the one shown above.
it's suppose to perform better with the canon 580ex which has random triggering problem from the previous version.

i just get the older version for a cheaper price and DIY modded it for something practically almost free (since all RAW material can be obtained from the household storeroom/kitchen). Been very reliable so far. :) In fact i have 2 of these radio triggers, modded them the same way, and I'm happily triggering away with 2 flashguns anytime I want.

Are you using a Sony HVL-F36AM/ HVL-F56AM or Minolta 5600HSD/ 3600HSD external flash??
If yes then you can use its' built in wireless flash feature.
Read your user manual for info of setting.:):)
And if you want to try the 3rd party trigger, all you need is 1 piece of THIS (http://cgi.ebay.com/Flash-Hot-Shoe-Sync-Adapter-for-Sony-A700-A100-FS-1100_W0QQitemZ160202724857QQihZ006QQcategoryZ64354 QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem) then plus THIS (http://www.shutterasia.com/forum/showpost.php?p=23610&postcount=20) then you are ready to play with it.:D:D
But mind you, no more TTL metering for 3rd party trigger;
you must trials and errors to get the right exposure or uses a light meter to get the right flash power.:):)

Don't need a light meter dude, chimping is the way forwards! Haha we have LCD with histogram.
You won't be using TTL off camera anyway its horrible, you'd soon get used to manual settings and lighting ratios.
The advantage of the China triggers is they are wireless, Sony/Nikon/Canon/Olympus are infrared, so they don't work well in bright daylight or out of line of sight.
*sigh* still saving for pocket wizards.

Light meter is just a suggestion for those who using 3rd party trigger without TTL metering. Of cos we can t&es a lots of times to get the result we wanted.:D:D
Of cos that is the main reason why we want to play the strobe lights with ratio setting- to get the lighting effects that we wanted to create.:D:D
I don't know Nikon/ Olympus wireless system but I do know that-
Canon is 1) using the IR(via ST-E2, can play with ratio setting for separate group of flashes- A B group) and 2) flash light frequency(set 1 of the 580EX/EXII as master and the others as slave, so we can trigged multiple slave flash units. Yes, can play with ratio setting also for A B C group.)
Sony is using their built in cam flash to trigged their wireless flash unit;
same theory as Canon method 2- using the flash light frequency(selectable channel) to fired the off shoe flash units- multiple units somemore and yes- it's able to play with ratio setting also. :):)

Nikon is same, can control up to 3 groups using pop-up flash as commander, can set the power of each flash from the camera menu.
The only one I don't know about is Olympus, but I'd assume it's the same.

I have the a wireless trigger set but it doesn't seem to work. it seems to receive the signal but the shutter doesn't trigger the flash. (I have a 30D and 580exII)
test1 - i moved the trigger off camera and connected it directly to the flash via the cable in the pack and pressed the test button and the flash fired
test2- put the trigger on camera with cable directly into the flash no flash
test3- put trigger on camera with receiver on flash, no flash..
ahhh is there any way to fix it?
had you set your flash to manual power? TTL don't work with China Made trigger!

how much exactly for a pair of PW? :?
About RM1200 from Stephen Direct Photo for PW Plus (a pair consisting a transmitter and receiver unit). About RM600 per piece for PW Plus II transceiver unit that I ask a friend to bring back from the Americas.
A note:
Don't mixed and match CE versions and US versions as they're don't use the same radio frequency lah

Looking forwards to Radio Poppers coming out sometime this year too, much better than china made, cheaper than PW and will have 2 versions - one supports i-TTL or e-TTL (like CLS) and one basic (Popper Jr.) one mimicking blind radio trigger like the chinamade cactus.

yes I made sure it was on manual, same channel and replaced the batteries.
:(
go back to the shop with your flashes and camera. Change other unit till it works fine.
That day i went to get a canon unit with my friend. The flash act mad when it is on the receiver. Finally, only figure out that the shop had given the nikon version to my friend and the shop had label it wrongly. The safest, bring along your gear, and try on the spot.

Hi,
Greetings to all SA people.
I'm planning to get 2 sets of the China made radio shutter trigger these few days, in fact I went around Penang (I stay in Penang) and saw 1 unit, asking for RM110. Is the price fair ?
I am using Nikon D40x and SB600 and I would like to get an extra flash (budget around RM400) as a second flash. So that in the end I will be able to fire 2 flashes at same time. I would like to play around with multiple flashes and try some of the tricks which I only dream of doing in the forums.
If any of the SA gurus and sifus will be kind enough to assist me...
1. Will the Shutter Trigger cause same problem of flashlight flashing randomly (like when use with Canon) ?
2. What's a good flash lights to be used as a second flash ? I don't mind buying second hand unit. Pricing around RM400.
3. Does anyone done this before using camera without build in flash controller to fire multiple flashes ?
Thank you everyone for reading. Thank you Thank you !

Hi guys .. 1 question :P This wireless trigger stuff has 2 types is it ? Radio triggered and flash triggered ? I think mine is Flash triggered because it doesn't have a transmitter ... I have to use the in-built pop up flash to trigger the transmitter ... and that's kinda crappy because the receiver has to directly face my camera ....
Means i can only do off camera flash ... IN FRONT OF ME =.=" .. if I put left or right .. then it can't detect the light then it won't burst ... sigh sucks ... bought wrong .. any DIY method to fix this ? :P
use a mirror. my 2 cents.
