First of all, I would like to thank ShaolinTiger for adding another section for car enthusiasts.

After a long wait, some units of the new Lancer will be arriving at our shore end of this month. These units will be used in the training for Mitsubishi sales representatives. Here's the estimated price for the car:-

2 versions available, GLS and GTS (most probably), 2.0 mivec engine and tiptronics with paddle shifter.
GLS - RM112k-113K
GTS - RM120k-122k

More information can be found in
New 2007 Mitsubishi Lancer specs and photos (http://paultan.org/archives/2006/12/11/new-2007-mitsubishi-lancer-specs-and-photos-revealed/)

Mitsubishi fans - do stay tuned for more updates :P

No news on the EVO yet. I'm quite surprised that they will launch the Lancer first and not EVO. The new EVO looks more or less the same as the new Lancer which runs on 4B11T.

Where's the EVO? :D

Many of us are still waiting patiently for it's arrival ;)

According to few articles that I've read about the Lancer 2007/Evo X (or 10), it will be released one year after the Lancer. The Evo X will bear about 80-90% of the Lancer Concept X (Announced together with the Lancer 2007) looks (Bodykits, rims etc) & specifications. We'll most prolly be able to see the Evo X mid 2008.

I think the most significant difference between Lancer 2007 & Lancer Concept X aka Evolution X is that only the latter will have a Mivec Turbo engine.

Update: The 3 videos here (http://paultan.org/archives/2007/02/03/2008-mitsubishi-lancer-walkaround-video/) will give you quite a clear picture about Lancer 2008 & Evolution X.

The Lancer 2.0 GT was unveiled yesterday at a stunning RM116k on the road with 3 years service and 5 years warranty!

Including leather seats, massive 18" rims and nice body kit.

Only 2k more than the 1.8L civic with cloth seats built in Thailand.

The Lancer is fully Japan made and imported, aggressive move by Mitsubishi Malaysia.

I find the 18" rims a bit odd though, tyre costs are gonna kill most people and they are a bit of an odd size - big radius but narrow at only 215 - my Satria tyres are already 245.

You can see full details from Paul here:

Read dude....READ!

2k more than the 1.8 THAI assembled honda giving out same power as the 2.0L honda which is 12k more.

Comes with bodykit, nappa leather and 18" rims as standard.

This Lancer GT. If compared to Honda Civic or Suzuki Swift Sports, which one better in terms of performance and looks. :)

And also Black or Red. ;)

Les.......if you look closely in & out at this NEW Lancer, u will notice some old styling cues. The Civic has a lovely shape & design IMO. Both will have their appeal. But in my eyes ........ wins in the looks dept. Speed? Power? Nice to have but not easy to use safely on our crazy roads.

dSLR........ the Suzuki is not quite in the same class. It has less horses & a small 1.5 ltr engine. The Lancer & Civic 2.0 should be very close in performance but the Lancer is cheaper. So u choose.

Hey bro, actually we don't agree to "which one is better" in cars and motorsports, it's more like a personal preference. You got to ask yourself which one do you like best. Don't simple buy a car just because of influence or people said it is good/better, unless you have tons of $$$.

I can say the Civic 1.8/2.0 is as good as Lancer GT. Civic owns the latest technology in its range for the overall engine setup, advanced digital meters sitting in the nicely designed dashboard and also the well-balanced aerodynamic chassis design.

On the other hand, the Lancer GT consists of a very conservative interior design, room space is not as spacious as Civic, but it has a tougher chassis to cater for those hardcore drivers like myself where performance and speed could not be compromised. :P

That's all for now before the moderator kicks me off the forum. If you are interested in getting either one of them but having difficulties in deciding, let me know and I can share with you some of my experience to ease your decision making. You can catch me in those TT sessions or PM me :)

Anyone here went test drive the car ? I actually went test drive on the 2nd or 3rd day after it launched.

From Glenmarie EON Automart out to Subang airport and back to the show room again

Car was carrying my brother, friend and the EON fella (fat guy) + myself ...estimated about 300kg for 4 of us...

First, was told not allow to use the triptonic +- as they were informed. Only alow to use steering pedal shift...

I managed to whack the car till 150km/h...what i can tell is the car pickup was sluggish..as the "Mivec" is not those older days Mivec but valve variable timing (full time Mivec)...:?

As its auto gearbox after 4th speed (meaning 5th and 6th speed) car really feel no more pickup...i have to stress it down to 4th speed all the way...:tongue_roll:

Handling wise not bad but can be improve like rallycar...the 18" were excellent...the two thing i like was the brake system (very good braking power and ABS respond) + it's Kenwood ICE system :)

I got another lady colleague also went test drive...said the same thing...engine pickup sluggish...now she ended up buying Mazda 3 :rasta:

She heard from her salesman that this Lancer GT price will be increase very soon since as its a CBU selling this price wherelse the competitor CKD car selling more expensive that it...so they got complaint...estimated will increase about Rm15-20K

If they increase the price, they will suffer in sales. I don't think it will go up so much.

What Desmond says is correct. Depends on the individual's taste. Do meet us all at coming TT.

The reason why you feel that the pickup is sluggish is because of the lovely 18" wheels. If you want a better response on the pickup, try changing it to 17" lightweight rims and you can tell the difference.

You can feel the power kicks in 2nd, 3rd and 4th gear. The 5th and 6th gear is used for cruising after you have gotten the power that you wanted in the lower gears.

The pick-up is not bad, but the interior is rather lacking and there is next to zero sound-proofing.

It's very noisy at above 120km/h.

I have to say the Civic beats it in that department.

Hi all,
I am new. Just join the forum and was thing to get more info on the new Mitsubishi Lancer 2008. I was reading one of the Car Magazine review and 2 main problems that was highlighted by one of the car review, and was escalated to Mitsubishi Malaysia. Not sure how true.

1) Car cannot go straight on the highway at high speed. But didn't mention what speed he was travelling. May be due to suspension or chassis.

2) while driving at 200km/h, there was a red light in the middle of the odometer..staing CVT overheating. The drived then slowed down to 120km/h and the indicator was gone.

You guys came across this?

Just my own opinion, I've been a huge fan of the EVO and the Lancer series but somehow, the EVO X and the new Lancers is a turn-off for me. Somehow, the look of it just isn't appealing to me.

Test driven one 2 months back and must say that I do like the handling and all but at the end of the day, the one thing that just doesn't appeal to me is... how it looked. Somehow, it's just ......weird..... I don't feel the energy of the car compared to the previous lancers and EVOs I've gotten near and into.

This new Lancer just look.... tame....

ShaolinTiger

I dunno man, I find Evo X looks FAR bettern than 7,8 & 9 which just looked like normal Sedan..

They lost the path since Evo 6, which was a MONSTER.

This car is begging to be lowered. It is just too tall to look mean on the street but the tallness maybe better on a rally road.
