Which would you buy and why?

This has always been a tough decision for me, the Evo looks better, handling and performance wise they are very similar with stock 276BHP.

In Malaysia at least the Evo is significantly more expensive (in the region of RM80,000 more..) for what gain?

Even if you compare 'extra' versions like the FQ-300 and the 22B or P1 scooby.

The Subaru

3888

The Evo

3890

For me the dream is an Evo 6 though or 6.5 extreme, I have to have one.

But I'm planning on checking out the scooby too :D

Evo VS Impreza has always been a very common topic among car lovers. Performance wise I think the Evo has the edge but in Malaysia, I'll go for the Impreza. I simply love the Impreza's engine noise, way better than the Evo. If I'm not mistaken, Subaru is reverting back to previous front grill on the next generation of Impreza. The latest grill got nicknamed as "The Flying Vagina" and I don't know why. Does it look like a vagina to you?

Yeah you can't beat the sound of the Impreza boxer engine, it's unmistakable.

The only thing in Malaysia with the Subaru is the parts are VERY expensive if you want to mod the car and there aren't that many shops that are experts with boxer engines.

The mod parts (strokers kits etc) for the Evo are much cheaper.

I hope they go back to their older designs for the Impreza, I much prefer the mark 4-5 series like when the prodrive P1 came out.

RX-8 is ladies car?
no way... looks at the body.
well, maybe the curvy body looks a bit sexy though. hahahaha.
Acura RSX or Lexus Altezza is nice too.
drove the Lexus before and it is damn nice.

Yeah RX-8 is a ladies car. RX-7 FD is the way to go. Anyways even if I can afford, don't think will opt for any of the Mazdas. Rotary engines drink fuel like water.

Tried both Evo & Impreza.. sorry/no offend ya.. err.. in Malaysia we have so many 'Wira-lusion' (Evolution wanna be) on the road leh so i think a bit jinjang leh :P.. i'll prefer Impreza.. i feel the Impreza more solid.. parts can get it cheaper in spore.. as for mod i can recommend to one of the sunway workshop..

SO :donow: how soon are u getting leh :?

Yeah, those wira-lution & waja-lution really spoil those good looking REAL evolutions. Some even tried to make gen-2-lution.

ST, before getting the imprezza, do look at the technical specs. Though the imprezza comes with a big engine compared to the evo, all my votes goes to the slick evo simply because its lighter. :D

Yeah that's another factor Evo was definitely the winner back in UK but over here...there's too many wiralutions and wajalutions, it somehow takes the kick out of owning a real Evo.

Subaru definitely wins some points there!

Dude they are both 2.0L Turbo, just the scooby is boxer.

I personally prefer the STI over the EVO. The Subaru has a stronger body control where it's able to handle curve/bends in a more effective and accurate way. On the other hand, EVO's pickup and speed is unbeatable by the Scooby.

However, there's no regret in getting either one. Reason being is that both car can be fully "tuned up" to compete with each other. Anyway, personal preference plays an important role in choosing between the two cars.

I strongly agree with you. The sound of the boxer engine is unbeatable, maybe of the contribution of the high cam running inside.

ShaolinTiger, let me know if you have a Scooby. There is a shop in Glenmarie, Shah Alam where they are the specialist in boxer engine, meaning they are the Subaru sifu. They also provide a free check report for those who is going to buy any Subaru, this is to ensure that the car is safe to own. But what is more important is they are friendly, willing to help and give advise. Therefore sourcing for cheaper car parts is not a problem anymore. PM me if you need more info abt the shop.

Thanks Desmond, that's useful to know. Gives me more confidence to buy a Subaru!

ygken, my friends Evo 8 could out accelerate a Ferrari and regularly did, Porches were no problem.

Of course it didn't have the top speed so the supercars could pass it at about 220 km/h like it was standing still.

But it could beat them off the line.

I'm very sure that A Mitsubishi Evo or Subaru Impreza or Nissan Skyline will pick me. However the salesman won't let it go for free. How? :P

I like the Subaru....it's the preferred "special" chase car for the Aussie police for many good reasons.

The scoop looks more macho too...hahahaha...and if the Subaru is cheaper than the equivalent Evo...no need to think so much lar....BUY!

one reason i'd choose evo over impreza is because of the EVO 9, so if it's not evo 9, i'd choose impreza anytime.. :D

but when i have to choose between EVO 9 and Type-25, i will choose the Type-25 anytime (but its not mass production car)

http://www.type-25.co.uk/

ST, either the porsche/ferrari didnt push it or ur friend's evo 8 is heavily modified..

coz my old honda could easily out accelerate any stock scooby or evo..

about RX-8 is ladies car... :D sorry i have to agree :P

if u follow every bit history of mazda sport car, u will know RX-8 is the worst they ever made :run_away:

go go ST import the Type-25 here :D

If I had to get an EVO, it would be an EVO 7 - simply because its the nicest-looking, IMHO.

But if I was looking for a B-road stormer, I'd love to get my hands on a Lancia Delta HF Integrale (16v or newer). This was probably THE original family-car-turned-into-a-4x4-turbocharged-rallying-monster.

Before the Scooby and Evo ignited the rally scene, there was this (and of course, the original Audi Quattro before it).

The Delta Integrale looks bloody good, handles like a dream and has a bulletproof engine that can be tuned to over 400BHP.

It's also Italian, which means it's full of passione - unlike most Jap cars which have fantastic engineering but no soul.

Being Italian, it also means that it's also probably full of electrical faults and more likely to rust into oblivion... Never seen one in Malaysia before - only saw one in the UK some 7 years ago.

*sigh*

Lancia Intergrale HE, friend of mine had one back in college, one of the most unreliable turbo units ever made...closely followed by the Renault 5 GT Turbo - the original hot hatch!

Love the Lancia though, was a wicked car.

Back then along side cars like the MK3 Ford Escort RS Turbo

4161

And yeah the original Audi Quattro.

Well... the newer units (the 16v model and later) is actually the same as the one found on the 4-cyl Fiat Coupe Turbo - and from what I've heard, it's quite reliable.

Another car I would love to get my hands on is the Peugeot 405 Mi16x4 / 405 T16 - another classic rally-bred car. No idea if it handles anywhere as good as a Peugeot 205 GTI, but the 405s are probably one of the most beautiful sedans ever penned by Pininfarina...

07-20-2007, 03:14 PM
Nah man I'm talking about the real Lancia...not the later pussy ones :)

The HE not the HF.

1991 type.

Hmm... never heard of it. Is it also a Delta?

Hmm I think earlier one might be HF aswell, can't remember!

I say go for EVO.Screw the STI because it is a pain to work on and slower then EVO.I won't mind a Lencia Intergrale HF,that is such a cool car.Or you can have an used 964 Porsche/Used Supra JAZ80/Used R32 GTR(Chanches is ultra slim) for RM100k.Or get a new Honda Civic 1.8L,swap a K24A Hybrid with Type S trans(Type R too short) and LSD,should be a fun all motor car.

Saw pix in magazines (long long time ago) of some Ford Escort with a huge whale fin of a rear spoiler - made the one on the 911 Turbo look tiny.

That's the RS Cosworth MKV I think it comes standard like that.

4324

Awesome car - but very hard to find and extremely expensive (still close to 30,000 UKP second hand - when you can get a normal MKIII RS Escort for about 3000..).
