Here's a breakdown of what I like, and dislike:

What I liked:
- fast loading
- fast acting moderators/admins
- listens to user feedbacks (maybe coz just started? hehe)

What I disliked:
- the appearance is too... cartoonish, would prefer a more serious outlook
- too much spacing between posts, words. wasted screen estate

keep it up, guys.

so far so good ...

but if its gets big ... i think the mod/admin will be very busy. and i suspect there are overlapping of authority given to the mod thus in long run it ll caused confusion.

have you guys decided who to oversee which thread/section?

seriously... it can be tiring. ths from the mod/admin point of view.

as a user.......I LOVE THIS FORUM!!! :D

just had a chat with les just now bout this.
everything seemed fine, but like les said to me, we also need members outside malaysia.
coz there are many talents out there like from indo, thai, phillipines, japan, etc.
we must try to make this forum asia-like forum.
having members from malaysia does not help SA.com to be unique.
from there, we can split SA.com based on region.

Errr...there are no 'Edit' and 'Attach image' option in "Events and gathering section".

oh yes...
i was hoping that SA.com is not a "carbon-copy" of another forum.
SA.com should have its own identity & WE shall make it happen.

I like the speed :D but the white background is a little bit too bright and it strains my eye if i read too long. maybe a softer background color would be better.

I like so far. The speed is important to me. And it's so nice to see all our old friends here. To me that's equally important because I don't like to be a newbie in a new forum. :)

max you should check if the images are hosted here on the site or at imagebucket etc.

If they are flickr/image bucket etc. they will be just as slow when loaded in any forum.

So far i like the SA most is the speed.....:rasta: very important issue... should maintain the speed all the time

Things can be improve:
1) Should have more type of equipment brand like Panasonic, Olympus, Sony/Konica Minolta, Fujiflem and etc in gear & technique section.

2) Should have a people power section - for member that need help for market information like pricing information, product availbility, good/bad buying Experiences and etc

3) should have a mass order/ mass sales for easy organize for large purchase quality for entired forum

4)Still...... thinking will let u know later:?

1) Should have more type of equipment brand like Panasonic, Olympus, Sony/Konica Minolta, Fujiflem and etc in gear & technique section.
I believe it's there under : "Other System's & Third Party Lenses". Covers a whole range of other brands apart from the 2 major players, Canon and Nikon.

2) Should have a people power section - for member that need help for market information like pricing information, product availbility, good/bad buying Experiences and etc.
Thanks on this feedback. We'll try to look into it.

3) should have a mass order/ mass sales for easy organize for large purchase quality for entired forum.
Ocassionally, you will find that such organized mass orders are being put up in certain related sections by those who take up the initiative to head it.

So far the forum here is excellent. Kudos to the mods and admin working hard to keep it a warm and friendly place.

I have a suggestion though. Will there be any Assignment topics in the near future? Say, a weekly or fortnightly assignment theme for members to gear up and go shooting. I see the "Challenges" section but is this the same thing? Or is "Challenges" of a more competitive sort...?

One more question. I wanted to start a topic asking for tips for the amateur photographer when shooting a birthday party. Where should I post this? Should it be in the "Photography - Portraits, People & Studio" section? I see this subforum more as a gallery.

Thanks in advance for answering.

Yeah the challenges will be this kind of thing, a certain theme or topic, a 'challenge' to shoot a certain kind of picture. We will start this running soon, perhaps in early may. When we have enough members!

I just made a new section as I think it's required, you can find it here:

very inovative style of managing forum, keep the idea flowing in..... i suggest that since we have some store like YL camera and J-one in our forum maybe we can have a day out or some workshop at their shop, promotion like maybe some discount on some services :D

back in car forums day we have similer workshop attached to our forums and we organize trip to their workshop and they normally give us some promotion on the service they offer forexample car workshop they give us discount or free check up on our car and free consultation(poisen) this have greatly improve their sales and member get to enjoy some privilage as well :D

just my 2 sen :)

I like the FixIt thread a lot. Can hone PP skills.

The icons are too cartoninsh but nicely animated.

The wink ; ) appears to be too serious ;). Scared to use it to avoid misrepresenting me. :)

Actually now that you mention it I agree about the wink smiley, the tongue smiley also sends mixed signals, it's rather odd, more serious, not a joking emoticon. :P

ShaolinTiger

Look around the net and find me some ones you like, I agree those two are a little odd and send mixed signals.

Find me some that are clearer (and fit in with the current set) and I'll replace the current ones, easily done!

SA, would appreciate if there is a sticky to help newbie who wants to explore the world of dSLR. Non biased reviews of competing brands, their pros and cons, market segmentation (entry level, mid, high end) would definitely be a great way to guide these babies...like me. Yes, there are reviews around the net if one care and hardworking enuf to surf, but those are overseas bias. In Tech does reviews once in awhile, but then again...hey SA should lead right!

Cheers for a good work done!

I've seen so many posts with images lined up in a horizontal row. Personally, i find it troublesome to view. Prefer them to be vertically lined up. Is it just me? What's you guys' preference?

Yeah, we do give proper instructions on how to insert images inline with text and numbers, but people are just lazy and can't be bothered so we have to look at their ugly jumbled pictures :)

I want SA to reign in Sabah as well and create opputunities to poison more sabahans into photography. :D

actually for now, Shutter Asia does not allow any service-offering advertisement. this is because we try not to create an opportunity for people with bad intention to cheat on Shutter Asia's members. we have seen so many cases where people got cheated which involved money, time, etc. however, we are still discussing on how to make this work so that it can benefits Shutter Asia's members.

tarachin,
some of your post were removed because they were in the wrong section. some because they were against our no-service-offering-advertisement policy like i have stated above. i've sent u a PM regarding this matter. well, that PM came with an infraction because you broke the rules. sorry.

so i hope this will clear some air. here in Shutter Asia, we try to focus on photography; and photography only. things like buy & sell, service offering are not our main objective. but we do try to cater these needs as long as they bring benefits to Shutter Asia's members.

thanks & have a great weekend. :)

Just gone thru my archived PM's, but I have never received any notification that you wanted to be a member. You did join one shoot which you paid rm120 non-member price earlier this year. Did you top up RM5 on the day for membership? If you did please forgive me for forgetting. If you did, pleas PM me your details as i don't have anything on file. Thanks

Hi there,

Hope you all could listen to my comment, even I am new and unknown to you all. Let's straight to the point.

I am happy when you all are willing to listen not just good thing but bad comment as well. This shows that you all are willing to take a step further for improvement even though it is a private forum for public.

Setting rules and regulations is good, sometime people tend to forget on certain guideline and be reminded is a good practice. I believe some of the moderators also crossed the line sometimes.

This is a good forum to learn and make new friends. Remember to put your C&C more friendly or else do not comment. IQ is important and EQ also equavalent too.

Cheer guys.:D

Shutterasia is cool... loads fast, good gui and more neautral than PM (where these bigger than life self acclaimed gurus reside :)).

One thing I feel that would make Shutterasia better will be more learning forums.
